Foundation Unit

What’s been happening in Foundation?

Reading

This week in Foundation the students began an author study by reading different picture story books by Australian children’s author, Margaret Wild. We have been focusing on being conscious of our thoughts when reading, in order to develop comprehension. Teachers have been modelling this by reading and thinking aloud to share their thoughts with students. We have been predicting, making connections, visualising, inferring and critiquing while also taking notice of the writer’s craft techniques that Margaret Wild uses in her books to have an effect on the reader. Students have identified craft techniques such as, onomatopoeia, alliteration and repetition so far.

Writing

Students have been getting their ideas and inspiration from the Margaret Wild texts we have read and discussed together in class. After reading a book titled Nighty Night! students wrote their own stories inspired by the text and the writer’s craft techniques onomatopoeia and alliteration. Here are some writing pieces they produced!

Maths

In maths we have been consolidating our number facts, in particular ‘Friends of 10’ as well as our number formation and place value. Students enjoyed making their own Friends of 10 posters and practising writing numbers with correct formation and placement. Here are some photos of our amazing efforts!
