Concert

This afternoon our students will be performing in our Australiana Concert. The level of excitement has been building each day with students and staff singing and dancing when the songs are played over the speakers at the end of recess and lunch. During Performing Arts lessons and in class time, the students have been practising the songs. It is our hope that as many families as possible can come along to enjoy the evening and support the hard work that has gone into preparing for the performance.

Disco

Last week we had our school disco. It was a night full of color, energy, creative dance moves and FUN. A big shout out to Parents and Friends for all of the organisation that went into the event. In order to provide such an enjoyable night for our students there are many logistical considerations including ordering the food and drinks, adult/child supervision ratios for Child Safe requirements and legal requirements including Working with Children’s Checks for volunteers and signing in and signing out processes for drop off and pick up.

A huge thankyou also to our resident DJ – Russell Wigginton who willingly played all requests. The Nutbush, Macarena and Barbie song were very popular.

Remembrance Day

On Saturday our School Captains attended the Woodend Remembrance Day Service where they placed a wreath and read the poem below. We also thank a number of other students and families that were in attendance.

A Poem For Remembrance Day

"The inquisitive mind of a child"

Why are they selling poppies, Mummy?

Selling poppies in town today.

The poppies, child, are flowers of love.

For the men who marched away.

But why have they chosen a poppy, Mummy?

Why not a beautiful rose?

Because my child, men fought and died

In the fields where the poppies grow.

But why are the poppies so red, Mummy?

Why are the poppies so red?

Red is the colour of blood, my child.

The blood that our soldiers shed.

The heart of the poppy is black, Mummy.

Why does it have to be black?

Black, my child, is the symbol of grief.

For the men who never came back.

But why, Mummy are you crying so?

Your tears are giving you pain.

My tears are my fears for you my child.

For the world is forgetting again.

Policies

This week at School Council we revised and endorsed a range of policies required by the Department of Education. Many of the policies are legally required.

The endorsed policies were:

  • Attendance
  • Bullying Prevention
  • Parent Disputes
  • Dogs In Schools
  • Electronic Funds Management
  • Cash Handling

If you would like a copy of any of these policies, hard copies are available at the office. The policies relevant to parents (such as Attendance, Bullying Prevention and ….) will be uploaded to our school website.

Parent Requests

The window for parent requests has closed and we are now in the process of finalising class structures. Again, we remind you that many factors are considered in the process. Whilst having friends in the class is a consideration, it is not the highest priority in the placement process. It is important that students are placed in classrooms and with teachers we think will be optimal in supporting student academic, social and emotional progress.
