Learning and Teaching

Dear LPS families,

Celebrating Our Student Leaders

On Thursday morning, the school was buzzing extra early as we hosted our annual Student Leadership Breakfast. Nineteen of our amazing student leaders joined us for a delicious breakfast, a chance to connect, and an opportunity to reflect on their time as leaders so far.

This special event recognises the important role our leaders play in shaping the culture of Lysterfield Primary School. Over toast, fruit, bacon and eggs, our leaders shared highlights and moments of pride from their experiences this year.

For many, representing LPS at the Leadership Conference in the city stood out as a highlight, an inspiring day that connected them with other young leaders and sparked new ideas. Others reflected on how their confidence has grown, especially when leading assemblies in front of the whole school.

Our leaders also spoke about the joy of helping out at PMP with our Prep students, supporting major school events like Cross Country, and cheering on teams at sporting events. They’ve enjoyed helping LPS thrive, whether that’s setting up and packing down assemblies, helping wherever needed, or simply being a friendly, dependable presence around the school.

As part of our reflection, students also identified areas they’d like to improve. These included supporting all Grade 6 students to be their best, so we can leave LPS on a high note, speaking more confidently at assemblies, and staying focused in class to be better role models for others. Acknowledging these goals shows a growth mindset and a commitment to developing not just as leaders, but as people.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication and positivity these students bring to their roles. They are role models for their peers and a big part of why our school community is such a supportive and inspiring place.

A big thank you to our leaders for all that you do, LPS is better because of you!

Rotary Speech Competition

At the start of the term, our Grade 6 students prepared and presented speeches on set topics to their peers, teachers, Mrs Roose, and Mr Wight. Following the presentations, two students were selected to represent LPS in the Rotary Speech Competition against other local primary schools.

Congratulations to Levon (It Was a Wild Ride) and Paige (What Planet Would You Visit and Why?) who will compete this Monday night at Rowville Secondary College. We wish them both the very best of luck!

Girls Netball at Regionals

Our Grade 6 Girls Netball team had an outstanding run at the Regional Championships. Playing three games in our pool, the girls came out strong and finished on top, undefeated.

In the semi-final, our opposition came out firing and caught us a little off guard. We fought hard to come from behind, drawing the game at full time and forcing it into overtime. With some great tips and encouragement from our coaches, Fiona and Kara, the girls stepped back on court with composure and a “can-do” attitude, securing the win and a place in the grand final.

The final saw us face a team we had beaten earlier in the day. The game was evenly matched early on, but after a few things didn’t go our way, we were defeated by a highly competitive side. While it was a disappointing end to the day, the girls should be incredibly proud of their efforts, sportswomanship, and the level they reached in such a tough competition.

As the Assistant Principal of LPS, it was a privilege to be there and witness their incredible talent, teamwork, both on and off the court, and their positive, determined attitudes. They represented our school with pride and should hold their heads high.

A huge thank you to our very knowledgeable and generous coaches, Fiona and Kara, for volunteering their time and expertise, and to all the families who helped score, cheered from the sidelines, and supported the girls throughout the day. Your contribution made a big difference.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend, and the very best of luck to our students competing in finals or other competitions over the next few days. We’re cheering you on!
