Year 3/4 Bulletin

Term 3 Bulletin – Grade 3/4

Term 3 has offered our students in ¾ to experience lots of extracurricular activities that provide real life learning opportunities. Some of these activities are highlighted within this bulletin to look back on and celebrate.

Gardening Program

Our gardening program has been a real highlight this term. Students began the semester with Clare before transitioning to Anna, and they quickly adapted to having new leadership in the garden. One of the most enjoyable aspects has been the freedom students have had to choose the jobs that interested them most. Whether it was heavy lifting and spreading mulch, carefully sowing seeds, raking up leaves, watering the garden beds, or creating colourful scarecrows, every child was able to find something they connected with. The creativity shown in watercolour painting and the sense of pride in harvesting what they had helped to grow were wonderful to see. A particularly special moment was the Winter Solstice celebration with Clare, which many students said was one of their favourite experiences of the term.

Kitchen Sessions

Cooking with Karen in the kitchen has also been a much loved part of our term. Each class had the chance to cook a range of delicious dishes, learning not only about recipes and ingredients but also about teamwork, responsibility, and independence. Students enjoyed the chance to prepare food from scratch, share meals together, and build confidence in the kitchen. A big thank you goes to the parents who generously gave their time to help out. The combination of our gardening and kitchen programs has continued to build strong connections between food, sustainability, and community.

House Sports Carnival at Duncan McKinnon

The House Athletics Carnival at Duncan McKinnon Reserve was one of the major highlights of the term. The day was filled with energy, excitement, and plenty of cheering from the sidelines as students represented their houses across a wide range of track and field events. It was fantastic to see the effort every student put into their events, from sprinting to high jump, long jump, discus and shot put. Beyond the competition, the carnival gave students the chance to demonstrate sportsmanship and encourage one another. Many students discovered new strengths and interests, while others simply enjoyed being part of such a positive community event. For those who excelled, the day also provided the opportunity to qualify for the District Sports on Wednesday 10th September, which is an outstanding achievement.

Soccer Gala Day at Fawkner Park

The Soccer Gala Day at Fawkner Park provided another wonderful sporting experience for our Grade 3/4 students. Playing in randomly mixed teams with children from across the year level, students had the chance to practise their soccer skills while also learning how to work collaboratively with new teammates. The day was not just about competition but about building friendships, supporting one another, and experiencing the joy of being part of a team sport. For many, it was also an opportunity to meet students from other schools, catch up with friends they may not have seen in a while, and test themselves against new opponents. What stood out most was the way students conducted themselves. Humble winners, resilient learners when things didn’t go their way, and positive, encouraging teammates throughout the day.

ERP Expo

Our Education Research Projects (ERP) this term focused on promoting our school’s ecosystem and environmental sciences. The ERP Expo was an absolute highlight, with so many parents attending to see the students’ hard work. Children confidently shared their research, models, and creations, explaining how their ideas could help protect and improve our environment. It was inspiring to see how authentically they could present their learning, applying their knowledge in ways that felt purposeful and meaningful. The pride on their faces as they shared their projects with both parents and peers said it all.

Book Week

Book Week organised by Ms Sozzi once again showed the creativity and enthusiasm of our students. The Book Parade was a fantastic celebration, with students arriving in such thoughtful and colourful costumes representing their favourite characters and stories. It was a real highlight for the whole school community to see such a wide variety of books brought to life. To top it all off, the Dance-a-thon at the end of the day created an incredible atmosphere of fun and energy.
