Prep Bulletin

This term in Prep has been filled with learning, growth, and plenty of special events. Our students have enjoyed taking part in a wide range of experiences, both in and out of the classroom. Each event has brought new challenges and opportunities to grow. Here are some of the highlights from this busy term!

100 Days of Prep

We had an incredible time celebrating 100 days of Prep. Students dressed up as what they want to be when they grow up and proudly walked down the runway to share their costumes with parents. Families joined us for a special Prep assembly, and children enjoyed creative activities like making their own ‘100 Days of School’ glasses and drawing what they will look like when they’re 100 years old. They even got to make their own '100 days of School' cookies!

STEM

Community Helper Invention:

During STEM, our Prep students became inventors as they thought of new ways to help community helpers. After listening to the story of Maya the Firefighter, the children asked, “What could we invent to make her job easier?” First they brainstormed as a class, then they drew up designs, and built their own creative inventions using materials like Lego and foam blocks.

School Community:

As part of our Big Idea, students worked together to design and build their very own school communities. They discussed what is needed to make a community, from shops to roads and other important places. Then, students collaborated in teams to create their community, delegating jobs carefully to make sure everything was balanced (not too many vets and just the right number of roads). It was wonderful to see teamwork, imagination, and problem-solving in action.

Mural

Our Prep students transformed part of our school by designing and painting a mural for the bike shed! After a class meeting where everyone shared their ideas, the teachers sketched a plan based on the children’s suggestions, and the students brought it to life by painting it with bright colours.

Prep Faces on the Wall

We also celebrated our school community by creating our faces on the wall in the entrance to the Infant Hall. Every Prep student and Prep teacher drew their own self-portrait, which is now displayed on the pinboard under the staircase near the infant hall. It’s a lovely reminder of all of our differences and people who make up our Prep cohort.

Gardening with Sally

This term, the Preps have been fortunate to take part in weekly gardening sessions with Sally (Daisy’s grandmother). Together, they have enjoyed raking, planting, worm hunting and helping to make our gardens look beautiful.

Firefighters

Our local firefighters visited Prep for two exciting sessions. First, they taught us all about fire safety and showed us their uniforms and protective gear. In the second visit, students had the chance to climb inside a firetruck, explore the equipment, and even try out the fire hose!

We are incredibly proud of our Prep students and the wonderful progress they have made so far this year. It has been such a joy to see their confidence, skills, and friendships grow. Looking ahead, we have plenty of exciting events planned to finish the year on a high, and we can’t wait to celebrate these moments together with our students and families!
