Head of Junior School

Mrs Jo Messer

A heartfelt thank you to all the families who have supported Homelessness Week this week at school through your generous donations of blankets, beanies, gold coins, and by purchasing pancakes and hot chocolates.

It was truly wonderful to see blankets and beanies being donated in droves as the boys came through the gates on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

All donations will be divided between St Vincent de Paul and the Hobart Women’s Shelter. Your kindness and generosity will go a long way in helping those in need this winter.

On Thursday of this week our Junior School Outreach group, Mini Vinnies, were busy cooking up a storm in the kitchens in the Junior School, combining forces with some parents who were also able to assist. We made pumpkin soup, sweet and savory muffins.

We finished off the week with ‘Wear Your Winter Woolies Day #2’ for a gold coin donation. I will be able to give you a final figure on the amount raised in the next edition of The Star.

Thank you again for your incredible support.

Mini Vinnies Cook for Louis' Van

Today, our amazing Mini Vinnies boys, along with a handful of generous parents, gave their time to cook meals for Louis' Van. On the menu: pumpkin soup, savoury muffins, and sweet muffins – all made with care and community spirit. Before the boys started preparation, Jody Sargison from St Vincent de Paul spoke to them about the importance of Louis’ Van and some astounding facts and figures about homelessness.

We are incredibly grateful for the wonderful support of Annabel Saunder, Nick Finlay, Bo-dene Hardaker, Teri Byers, Teena Wagstaff, and Mrs Julie Stokes, who all played a big part in helping the boys prepare the food.

A huge well done to our fantastic Mini Vinnies team:

Clancy Gillie, Archie Argyropolous, Edward Hickey, Youssef Assi, Archie Bugg, Ruben D'Amico, Lewis Finlay, Angus Hardaker, Lima Hazi, Ned Heddle, Hugo Helmers, Panyioti Hiras, Theo Lockhart, Angus Saunder, Harrison Siddall, Oliver Wagstaff, Theodore Weston, Winston Whittle, and Christopher Xavier.

Their hard work and commitment to serving others is a true reflection of the values we uphold at SVC. An additional thank you for the generosity of Phil Shanny from Murphy's Cafe at SMC for donating the stock for the soup and Ricky Umgeher from Coles for the donation of all other ingredients. Well done, boys!

Gadomski Cup

Our Year 5/6 Gadomski Cup football team proudly represented SVC in the annual Gadomski Cup game against Hutchins this week.

Although we didn’t come away with a win, the way the boys played demonstrated school pride, determination, and respect for the college and the purpose of the game.

A heartfelt thank you to Mr Jason Britten, who has generously coached the boys in his own time over the past few months and on game day. We’re proud of our team’s effort and sportsmanship!

Congratulations to the team:

Fire Education

This week we have had Firefighter, Drew Wilkinson, deliver Fire Safety Education to all of our classes in the Junior Campus. Firefighter Drew presented us with a certificate of thanks for partnering with Fire Tas to deliver Fire Education in the Junior Campus over 30 years.

Instead of me telling you about Fire Education, here are some important things the boys have learnt so far this week:

"He told us to stop, drop and roll. Fire Education was fun and Fire Fighter Drew was kind" H. Facer (Prep)

"When there's a fire, get down and go, go, go to the nearest exit. Never stand up in smoke, it's got chemicals and it's bad for you!" L. Broughton (Year 2)

"Make sure you have alarms in every room and don't look away while you are cooking!" C. Huxtable (Year 5)

"Check your fire alarms are on and didn't run out of batteries. Fireman Drew is so cool!" A. Bird (Year 1)
