The Resilience Project (TRP)

Senior students have been learning about the trait of Empathy during TRP lessons over the past few weeks and have been focusing on the importance of positive self-talk and being empathetic towards ourselves as well as others. Students watched the following video (https://youtu.be/GSboXBkwpY0?feature=shared ) and then a terrific class discussion was held around how sometimes it can feel awkward to speak positively to yourself or about yourself but it's really important that we're able to train ourselves to do so confidently and regularly. Positive self-talk is crucial for building resilience and it doesn't make us develop arrogant egos but allows us to love and appreciate ourselves for who we are- strengths, weaknesses and everything in between. Students also worked on creating an advertisement for themselves, highlighting all of their wonderful traits and abilities and we shared these as a class and then offered suggestions to our peers around positive traits we see in one another.

Families may like to complete this Empathy activity at home by creating their own positive self-talk advertisements or by completing this Take it Home Activity around Empathy:

Loddon Children's Health and Wellbeing Local

We are very fortunate to be working in partnership with the Loddon Children's Health and Wellbeing Local team who are a service in our local area which offers free support for children and families. The LCHWL have developed some resources for us to share in our communications with families around Trauma and Recommended Sleep Guidelines which you may find useful to refer to. The Sleep Guidelines fact sheet in particular aligns well with our recent work with Dr Jared Cooney-Horvath around the science of learning and the way our brains grow and develop.
