Joint School and Parish Mass :

Hosting a school joint Mass once a term on a Sunday provides an excellent opportunity for the broader school community—students, staff, parents, and parishioners—to come together. It’s a way to show that the school and the parish are intertwined in a shared mission of nurturing faith and building a supportive environment.

Our inaugural Mass was celebrated last Sunday, with students participating in the readings and the parish providing a pancake breakfast.  Thank you to Michael and Lesley, who cooked a beautiful BBQ breakfast for the school families and staff.

This week's Gospel reading comes from Luke (14:1, 7-11)

In this week’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us of the importance of humility, teaching that those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. As a Catholic school community, this message resonates deeply with the way we live and work together. True leadership, whether in the classroom, the playground, or among staff, is not about seeking status or recognition but about service, respect, and lifting others up.

At St Mary’s, I see this Gospel lived out daily—teachers quietly going the extra mile for their students, children helping one another in the small moments, and families working with us to build a strong, faith-filled community. May we continue to walk in humility, knowing that in God’s eyes it is not our position but our love and service that matter most.
