Principal's Report

Newsletter Report – Term 3, Week 6

Another big fortnight of fun and learning at Langy Park!

Foundation Students

Our Foundation students enjoyed some wonderful days learning with Community Helpers and Emergency Responders. A big thank you to the volunteers who shared their knowledge and experience—our students gained valuable, first-hand insights into the important roles people play in our community.

Book Week What a celebration of reading!

  • The Book Fair was a huge success.
  • Our PFC Reading Challenge saw an incredible number of books read.
  • Author visits inspired writing activities in classrooms.

And of course, the Book Parade was a highlight—thank you to everyone for joining in.

It was also special to have our local preschool groups take part in the fun.

Camps

Year 5 Camp

Students had a fantastic two-night adventure at Sovereign Hill. With fine, sunny weather and over 12,000 steps a day up and down the hills, it was a busy camp filled with gold panning, mine exploration, and learning about life on the goldfields. Staff received glowing feedback on our students’ excellent behaviour—well done, Year 5! A huge thank you to staff for the careful planning and time away from family to make this camp possible.

Year 4 Camp

This week our Year 4s are experiencing the sights of Melbourne—the MCG, Eureka Tower, Aquarium, and the Icehouse, to name just a few. We know they’ll return with many stories (and just as many steps on their trackers!)

Did you know?

In the past, staff volunteered their time to attend school camps, often giving up several nights with their own families. A more balanced approach now means most staff receive Time in Lieu for out-of-hours attendance, with costs shared between the Education Department and the school’s general budget. This is not included in camp fees.

Event Planning & Parent Payments

Our school has strong processes in place to ensure events are well-planned and resourced. Using Compass, families receive an event notice and at least one reminder before deadlines close. These deadlines are important so we can finalise planning and reconcile finances efficiently.

While we understand that exceptional circumstances sometimes arise, parents who miss a deadline should contact the Principal directly. We appreciate your support of these systems—they help us deliver smooth, successful events for your children.

Behaviour Focus

This fortnight we are reinforcing two key routines:

  1. Lining up promptly and quietly at the bell, ready to learn.
  2. Listening respectfully when teachers speak—voices off, eyes on the speaker, hands to self.

Some senior students need extra reminders, especially when a relief teacher is in the classroom. Principals are supporting these classes, and we thank families for reinforcing these expectations at home.

Parking Reminder – Designated Zones

Thank you for keeping our school safe by following parking rules:

  • Kiss and Go Zone – please use correctly.
  • Staff Car Park – staff only.
  • Swimming Pool spots – for families attending lessons.

Your cooperation keeps drop-off and pick-up safe and efficient.

Play Equipment – Before and After School

We love seeing families enjoy our playground—it creates a positive and safe community space. Please note:

  • At 8:45am (when staff are on duty), students should move to their learning zones.
  • After school, staff are on duty until 3:45pm. Students still onsite after this time wait safely at the office.
  • Families are welcome to stay and play after 3:45pm. Please encourage children to continue showing Respect, Resilience, and Citizenship while using equipment.

Building Works & Grounds Update

  • Ramp works are nearly complete, with fences removed. Full completion is expected by end of term, restoring our play areas.
  • The front garden rejuvenation is underway—thank you to our Buildings & Grounds Committee for driving the redesign.
  • Middle School area has been steam-cleaned, with further upgrades planned.
  • Middle School Toilet Block requires major works—we are working with the Department to secure funding.

Leading with laughter, care, and consistency.

We know life is busy, but there’s real power in community. We’re calling on our local legends to help with a few small projects — things we’d rather not outsource if we can keep it in the neighbourhood!

We’re currently looking for:

A licensed gas plumber for compliance checks

Carpenters for a fencing project

An air conditioning mechanic (for holiday servicing)

A landscaper for garden planning

Green thumbs for light weeding and pruning

Even an hour of your time makes a big difference. If you’re able to help or want more info, please contact the front office — Bluey, our Facilities Manager, will be in touch.

Let’s keep building a strong, connected community — together!
