Foundation, Grades 1 and 2 classes.
Students completed their Fireworks at the Eiffel Tower to celebrate French week. Students looked at the structure of the Eiffel tower and what it is made from - iron. Using a template, students cut out the shape of the tower and using metallic pens, decorated the paper using a variety of lines and patterns. Students watched a video about fireworks and were encouraged to look at the colours and shapes against the night sky. Using soft pastels, students created their firework display around the Eiffel Tower.
Grades 3 and 4
Continuing with the theme of birds, students began their foam birds. Students selected their colours and used their scissor skills by cutting out the outline of the bird and the wings. Students learnt about the right and wrong side of work, a needle is a tool that is used to sew, a needle has an eye and how to thread a needle.
Students drew light pencil lines on the wings to have a line to follow as they began to sew using straight stitches. The birds will be completed in time for the school Expo in Week 8.
Grades 5 and 6
Continuing with the theme of penguins, students began their felt penguins.
Learning how to use a pattern, students pinned the paper pattern to the felt. The pattern on the felt was accurately cut and sewing began. Students learnt that a pin has a head and a needle has an eye. Stitches have different names and the students used straight stitch to sew the tummy of the penguin to the front. Beaks and eyes are yet to come. When completed, the felt penguins will be on display for the Expo in Week 8.
Just take a moment to ....
look at objects in your environment that have been using a needle and thread.
