This Fortnight in Literacy and Integrated Studies
By Matilda 6SB
We are now at a stage where we are combining our learning about the elements of poetry with social justice issues facing our community. Students are currently in the planning stage of their SLAM poems, focusing on a social justice issue of their choice.
This Fortnight in Numeracy
By Daniel S. and Ethan 6SB
Over the past few weeks, Grade 6 students have been exploring angles. These angle types include complementary angles, supplementary angles, and vertically opposite angles. We have also been reviewing acute, right, obtuse, straight and reflex angles. We have been challenged to apply our knowledge to identify the measure of unknown angles. Did you know that the angles in a triangle always add up to 180 degrees?
The Grade 5 students have been focusing on decimals, percentages, and fractions. Students have enjoyed learning and revisiting some of these concepts and can’t wait to learn more.
Centre for Higher Education Studies (CHES)
By Eleanor 6SB
On Tuesday 19th of August, a number of high ability students from Grade 5 and 6 participated in a focus group with CHES (Centre for Higher Education Studies). It focused on talking about the different ways that we learn best. First, they asked us to fill out a quick questionnaire. Then they asked us to reflect on the following questions:
This was a great opportunity for us to share our voice in regard to our experience of learning.
Staff then participated in a Professional Learning session with a member from CHES after school. Thank you, Mrs. Ballot, for facilitating this.
Balwyn High Visit
By Zavier 6SC
On Thursday August 21st, Year 6 students boarded a bus. Why? To visit Balwyn High School, where students were able to experience a taste of High School life. The visit started with former BPPS students giving a speech about the differences between High School and Primary School and sharing some tips to get prepared. Students then watched a video - ‘A Day is the Life of a Year 7 Student’. Students were then able to witness over 2,000 students move from one class to the next. Some even met some old friends along the way! Then the students split up, with one grouping participating in a Science class about electricity, while the other went on a scavenger hunt. Then groups then swapped activities before finishing the trip with a visit to the canteen. Overall, the students enjoyed the trip, but have mixed feelings about starting High School. I personally can’t wait for it!
