Art Monitors Update

Year 3/4 Owl Art

This term the 3/4s have been painting owls and adding recycled parts to finish it. They used a picture of an owl to help with the general shape and the colour.  When they finished sketching, it was time to glue the parts together. When that's done, you add the finishing touch, the colour. We think it’s a good idea to recycle our rubbish and make them into art. The finished product has amazing details and looks very good on display.

Year 5/6 Art

This month in art the Year 5/6s have been learning how to shade. We have been practising our art skills and making our work better by adding depth and shadows to our drawings. To practise this skill we learnt how to write our names in a cool way, then we displayed it on a brick wall. Shading is a useful technique for adding finishing touches to your work. What you need to do is draw a little outline outside your drawing or text and then take a tissue to smudge it together. Once you have done this take a rubber and even out your shading. Then your drawing now looks like it has a shadow.

The 5/6s have also created a graffiti style artwork of their names on a brick wall, one of the techniques we used was blending. We blended bright colours together to create a gradient, which is made and looks similar to shading. We drew our names in our sketchbook and added etched intricate patterns into it to make it more interesting. We then coloured it in with vibrant blending colours and cut it out and stuck it onto a brick wall that we drew using various materials. Our artwork is on display in the 5/6 classrooms and corridors.

Our current project that the year 5/6s are working on is making a 2D vase to make it look 3D with the help of shading and creating depth. Our first step was completing the vases, then we drew a table on an A3 piece of white paper. Then we used paper mache to fill in the extra space with old newspaper. That was now our background. The next thing we did was stick the vase onto our backdrop. Our piece is now complete and it looks amazing, with everyone's piece having a unique and different look to it. We loved making this piece and we can't wait for what Mrs Atyimas has planned for us in the near future!
