SES Cadets

This term, our SES Cadets have been working towards their qualification in Road Crash Rescue. They’ve been learning how to safely cut through cars and extract casualties from accident scenarios.

One cadet shared, “In the SES cadets we have been working towards our qualification in road crash rescue where we have been learning different techniques of how to cut through cars to be able to rescue people who have been in a car accident. It has been a great experience learning skills that could help save a life some day.”

Scenarios have included vehicles on their side, on their roof and on their wheels, with cadets using different tools to ensure people can be rescued safely. As another cadet explained, “In Road Crash Rescue we've recently been doing a lot of work around car accidents where the car’s off its wheels, either on its roof or on its side. We use different tools and techniques to get the people out, safe and sound.”

The course has become a real highlight for many cadets. One commented, “If it's anything that I could do over 100 times and never get bored, it would be the Road Crash Rescue Course for SES. Nothing like destroying the structure of a car and it being completely okay is hands down my new favourite hobby every week.”

Each week brings new learning opportunities, as one cadet summed up: “In our Road Crash Rescue Unit we are learning how to safely extract a casualty from a vehicle as well as putting it into practice with new scenarios each week.”
