Careers Update

Our Year 12 VCE students are currently in the process of applying for their 2026 study options through VTAC. This is an important step as they consider their future pathways, whether that be university, TAFE or other training opportunities. Students are encouraged to have their applications completed before the timely application deadline in late September to avoid additional fees. They are also able to apply for scholarships and the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) which can support them in achieving their goals.
Course applications | Open | Close | Fee |
---|---|---|---|
Timely applications for 2026 courses | 4 August | 29 September | $80 |
Late applications | 31 October | $160 | |
Very late applications | 5 December | $200 |
Meanwhile, our Year 12 VM students are continuing to complete their Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) placements. These experiences are providing valuable opportunities to develop real world skills, connect with industry and gain hands on experience in their chosen fields. We would also like to congratulate our students who have successfully gained apprenticeships this year, whether that be full time or school based. This is an outstanding achievement and we are incredibly proud of the effort, dedication and determination they have shown in securing these opportunities.
We are proud of all our Year 12 students as they take these important steps toward life beyond school and encourage families to support them through this exciting stage of their journey.
Accommodation On Campus
Any Year 12 students considering living on campus at university next year will need to apply as soon as applications are open via each university website. On-campus accommodation options fill very quickly.
Year 9 Morrisby
Well done to our Year 9 students who recently completed the Morrisby Career Assessment. All students were focused and determined throughout. These students will be scheduled in for a 30-minute interview with a Morrisby trained career counsellor in Week 1 of Term 4 to unpack the results. This online assessment is designed to help students discover, develop and drive their career planning. It's a unique opportunity for students to learn more about their strengths and abilities, while exploring potential career options – giving the students the confidence to start taking control of their future.
Girls in Blue
What an inspiring day at the Girls in Blue Program for the three Year 10 students who attended. Female students from across Baw Baw and Latrobe enjoyed a behind-the-scenes look at life in Victoria Police - from Forensics and Highway Patrol to Prosecutions and the Criminal Investigation Unit. The day kicked off with a station tour in Moe, followed by a powerful presentation at Moe Town Hall about careers in the force and the recruitment journey. Thanks to Community Bank Trafalgar & District, students enjoyed donuts for morning tea and pizza for lunch - fuelling up for the highlight of the day: the Living Library.
Ten incredible female officers became 'books,' sharing their career stories in small group chats. Students chose two 'books' to 'read,' asking questions and hearing firsthand what it’s like to serve in different roles across Victoria Police. This fourth annual event, led by the Baw Baw and Latrobe Proactive Policing Units in partnership with Baw Baw Latrobe LLEN, continues to spark passion and purpose in our future leaders.
Engineering Ahead – Day 4
Engineering Ahead is a program developed by Baw Baw Latrobe LLEN, in collaboration with TAFE Gippsland and Federation University, to encourage students to explore careers in engineering, from fabricators and mechanical fitters to civil and electrical engineering.
As part of this initiative, students from Lowanna College currently participating in the program had the opportunity to visit Federation University. The students had a fantastic time getting hands-on with engineering challenges. From testing who could build the strongest bridge to a robotics programming task with the support from Federation University, the day was all about problem solving, teamwork and innovation. We sincerely thank Federation University for their generous time in inspiring Gippsland’s next generation of engineers.
TAFE Short Courses
TAFE institutions run short courses; these courses are a good way to expand your learning in a field you are interested in. Please see link below for a list of these courses at TAFE Gippsland.
