Book Week Fun at Lowanna

Book Swap

The Great Lowanna Book Swap was a great opportunity for students to pick up some new books to add to their reading pile.

English Team - Favourite Childhood Stories

Our English Team had some fun during Book Week, bringing their favourite childhood story books to the college.

'Good Night, Me' was one of my favourite childhood books ever. My parents used to read it to me at bedtime most nights, even though I'm sure they were so sick of it after the first three reads. When I see the cover, it still reminds me of being cosy in my PJs, spending time with my parents.

'Beauty and the Beast' has been one of my all-time favourite fairy tales, from the Disney movie to the original story. - Miss Jones

One of my favourite books from when I was little is the 'Rainbow Fish'. I remember this being part of the nightly routine and having this read to me all the time. I loved this book so much that we even had a puppet of the Rainbow Fish that we would pretend was reading the book. - Mrs. Wood

My mum would read me the story 'The First Day of School' when I was in kindergarten. Mum wanted to get me ready for my first day of primary school and for it to be a smooth transition. I would ask mum to read the story over and over again because it was my favourite. - Miss Simons

A clever fox. A cunning fox. Outsmarting others. With Roald Dahl's fabulous use of language, this was always my favourite!! - Ms Longden

My book was 'Possum Magic'. I loved the images and how the possum gradually appears after eating all of the food. - Ms Lyne

'Amelia Bedelia' has been enjoyed in our family for a long time. My grandmother used to read it to my Mum, and then my brother and I. Amelia's a housekeeper who confuses the instructions she's given, leading to some disasters! We loved the humour in the story. I look forward to reading it to my newborn niece and nephew when they're older.

The illustrations in the 'Bananas in Pyjamas' book are bright and inspired my imagination as a child. I read this countless times and it's been very well loved! - Miss Flahavin

My favourite childhood book was a present from my mum for my seventh birthday! It's a cute story about a Jack Russell named Edward (similar to my dog at the time) who goes on some wild adventures. I'm pretty sure it was a promotional book for Australia Post back in 2005 which makes it 20 years old...does that mean it's technically a classic now? - Miss Evans

'Mother Goose' was my favourite nursery rhyme book. I remember mum reading it to my brother and I when we were little. I loved 'Peter Pan' because I loved fairies and adventure. Captain Hook used to scare me. - Ms Sheahey

Year 7 Regional Soccer

On a cold and wet day, our Year 7 boys soccer team took to the field for the Regional Soccer event, showing incredible motivation and resilience. The challenging weather did nothing to dampen their spirits, with every player giving their all in each game. It was a hard-fought competition, with the team securing two strong wins and one draw, earning them a place in the State Finals. Throughout the day, the boys demonstrated great teamwork and cohesion, supporting each other both on and off the pitch.

Congratulations to the Year 7 boys soccer team on their fantastic achievement and best of luck as they head into the State Finals! A big thank you goes out to all the parents and student helpers who came along to cheer, assist and keep spirits high in the chilly conditions.

Shave for a Cure!

Join us for a great cause!

On Monday 13 October, Lowanna College will be buzzing with excitement and purpose as a brave team of students and staff come together to take part in Shave for a Cure – cutting, colouring, shaving heads and one beard, to raise vital funds for Leukaemia and blood cancer research. This incredible charity supports patients and their families through every step of their journey, funds ground-breaking research and helps raise awareness across the country. Every dollar donated makes a real difference in the lives of those affected. The Lowanna community has always stood strong together – and this event is another chance for us to unite for a truly worthy cause. There’ll be music, laughter and plenty of colour, with students invited to donate a gold coin to get their hair coloured on the day! Our goal is to raise $5,000 and we need your help to get there. Support your favourite team member by clicking on the below link to donate – every little bit helps! Let’s show the strength of the Lowanna and greater community spirit. Together, we can help shave the way to a cure!
