Green PLC Update

Our Secondary cohort has transitioned back to school beautifully. Everyone is super excited and ready to learn. The Bright Beginnings Program helped ease students back into routine, focussing on our school values of safety, learning, and respect. We explored different Maths topics, including Number & Algebra, Measurement & Geometry, and Statistics & Probability.

We continue our ongoing work with The Zones of Regulation, a Personal and Social Learning Curriculum. This curriculum provides students with an easy way to think and talk about emotions and how they feel. It’s great to see students empowered with skills in self-awareness and strategies for regulation.

It’s been wonderful to see students becoming more familiar with their secondary classroom environments, routines, and expectations. Establishing strong daily structures is a key focus during this time, as predictable routines help students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.

Our Secondary students are engaging enthusiastically with their tailored curriculum. In English.  They’re exploring the mentor text ‘Welcome to Country’ by Aunty Joy Murphy and Lisa Kennedy. They’re using the school’s new English planner to cover letters, sound, sensory exploration and connecting the text to support the sensory explanation. Key vocabulary throughout the book is being predicted, charted and written in personal and mentor text. Colourful semantics writing is also being practised, focussing on personal and mentor text and craft covering letters and mentor text connections are being created.

Mathematics lessons focus on developing number skills through hands-on activities using materials like dice and number lines. This makes abstract concepts more accessible and meaningful. Students learn to respond to requests to collect quantities of objects, read numerals, and select the corresponding items from a collection. They also explore algebra, playing simple rule-based games and moving a specified number of places according to dice rolls. Additionally, students recognise repeating patterns used at home and in daily activities to make tasks easier or solve problems.

History lessons delve into the study of old and new things, exploring how transport has changed over time. Students identify significant events and milestones in their lives and understand how individuals grow and change over time.

Health lessons help students recognise their strengths and understand that these strengths make each person unique. They also learn to participate safely and responsibly in the classroom.

We had a wonderful time celebrating Harmony Day on Friday, March 20th. This morning, students participated in activities that recognised and celebrated diversity, inclusion, and belonging with their families who could attend. It was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the true meaning of Harmony Day: respect for all cultures and the importance of creating a community where everyone feels valued and included.

We look forward to a positive and productive term ahead as students continue to grow in confidence, independence, and connection within our school community.

Our upcoming assemblies will be held on Friday, May 15th at 2:20 pm in the Gym (Term 2 Week 4) and Friday, June 19th at 2:20 pm in the Gym (Term 9). We would love to see you there!

Warm regards,
