Term 1

This week the students concluded their unit on Newcombe Ball and Volleyball, revising all of the skills and games that they have learnt so far this term. Students performed underarm throws with a partner at increasing heights and distances, catching with a pinky bowl. Kindergarten students completed this individually. They also revised overarm throws, focusing on proper technique—starting with feet together, aiming carefully, and engaging their “muscle arm”. Skill development with paddle bats continued, with students progressing through increasingly challenging levels; older students practiced volleying with a partner. Volleyball exercises included younger students catching the ball with two hands, while older students worked on more advanced skills such as setting and digging. Each lesson concluded with games of Newcombe Ball or Volleyball, where students applied tactical strategies like spreading out across the court and targeting open spaces to score points.

Students have been reminded to arrive promptly at the steps of the half basketball court at the start of their lesson, equipped with their hat and a full water bottle to ensure they remain hydrated.

Zone Swimming Carnival

Yesterday, a number of our talented swimmers represented Carlingford West Public School at the Castle Hill Zone Swimming Carnival. This event offers an exciting chance for our students to challenge themselves, support and cheer on their fellow peers from Carlingford West, and demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship alongside students from other schools. We are incredibly proud of all students participating and thank our families for their ongoing encouragement and support.

We look forward to providing a full recap of the carnival next week, including detailed results and plenty of photos to celebrate our students’ achievements. Watch this space for an update that highlights all the wonderful moments from yesterday’s event, despite the dreary weather at times!

PSSA Basketball - Match Report

On Friday we played North Rocks Public School in a highly competitive round of basketball. Our girls’ team delivered a fantastic result, winning 21–18 and handing North Rocks their first loss. This was an especially satisfying victory after the girls were defeated by North Rocks in the semi-finals last year. Leanne was a standout in a tough, fast-paced match, and Rachel contributed several crucial baskets at important moments.

Our boys’ team also faced a challenging game and came away with a strong 30–17 win. The boys started slowly, but once Kaixin scored the first few baskets, the team lifted their intensity and teamwork, eventually pulling away to secure the victory.

Congratulations to both teams on their effort and sportsmanship!
