Inter-School Swimming Carnival

Head of Primary, Mrs Tracey Rogers

“Don’t wish for it, work for it” was an idea shared with students at the beginning the year and it was wonderful to see so many students who have worked hard on their swimming skills and fitness reach personal goals at the recent Primary Swimming Carnival. Amongst the terrific swims were also several record-breaking times. We were blessed with wonderful weather for our seasonal event which allowed for maximum participation of students across the day. The novelty events were a highlight and I know the students loved having their teachers in the pool joining in with the fun. Our gratitude to Ms Ellis and Ms Fowler for their organisation of the day and all the parent helpers who assisted with the smooth running of events. We were very grateful to have the iPad on the finish line for all of those close finishes!

The Championship trophies and medals, and our much-anticipated House Reveal will be a part of our Week 8 Assembly (Friday 22 March), hosted by our Year 4 cohort.

On Thursday our Inter-School swimmers participated in the IPSHA Inter-School Carnival at Newman College. I am always so proud of the way our students represent themselves and the School at these events, with good sportsmanship, effort and behaviour.

On Wednesday evening the P&F hosted a marvellous Welcome Back Barbecue event. With perfect weather for the evening, it was wonderful to see so many families and students in attendance, enjoying each other’s company and the musical talents of students and staff at JWACS. Our thanks to Primary Music Specialist, Miss Hollie Burbage, for organising the entertainment and the P&F for their work to run such a great social event to start the year. After sharing their enjoyment of the evening with me, one of our Year 2 students exclaimed, “Do we get to have a barbecue again next year?”

I have been immensely proud of our Year 3 and 5 students (and their teachers) for the work they have put into preparing for the online component of the NAPLAN assessments that commence next week. There is a great deal of work that goes on behind the scenes to get this running smoothly each year, and I would like to acknowledge the work of Mrs Shelley Bydder, Mr Blake Phillips and the IT Team for their support in this process. The students have had the opportunity to practice logging into the platform to ensure they know how everything works. Although NAPLAN does not measure patience, striving to do one’s best and support for each other, these important qualities are demonstrated by our students during the process, and they are to be commended in this regard. We wish them well for next week.

This week at our Primary Staff Meeting we were able to celebrate our new teachers by presenting them with their certificates for completion of the WAASA Induction earlier this year. We are grateful they have joined our JWACS Team!

A reminder that our 2 and 3 Way Conferences are scheduled for Week 8 and 9 of this term. This is an important opportunity for parents and guardians to be involved, informed and able to ask questions. There will be a letter from me via SEQTA soon which will outline further details so please be sure to check this regularly.

Take care.
