SCHOOL SPORT TERM 1

Students will take part in school based sport for the rest of Term 1. Students will learn a range of skills to strengthen their enjoyment and ability in gross motor skills.

Kindergarten - Students will participate in a range of activities to build specific fundamental movement skills in both the locomotor and non-locomotor areas. They will develop in the areas such as body awareness, balance, patterns of movement (traveling) and jumping/rolling. Students will develop and perform skills and sequences and participate in all activities with an awareness of safe practices.

Year 1/2 - Hand-eye coordination and motor skills will be developed in order for students to practise aim and accuracy in a variety of formats. Skills may include the development of throwing and catching skills considering the body as a ‘target’

Target Games are activities in which players send an object toward a target while avoiding any obstacles. Key target games include croquet, golf, archery, boccia,  and bowling.

Year 3/4 - Students will develop their skills in target games by participating in a range of skills practices and  minor games to explore different techniques to propel an object towards a target.  Participants learn about and practise aim and accuracy as they send an object toward targets different distances away and accurately send an object to and through a series of targets.

Year 5/6 - Students will utilise a range of equipment to develop accuracy and object control when aiming to go to, over and through targets. They will work as individuals and within groups to develop movement solutions to a range of challenges and develop the skill set needed for participation in target games such as golf.

Diocesan Winter Trials - Year 5 & 6

Diocesan Winter Trails for Soccer, Netball and Rugby League will take place in Tamworth on Friday the 8th of March. These trials are not a "come and try" day. These are for selection to represent the Armidale Diocese in the above mentioned sports in various upcoming carnivals. As such, there is a need for interested students to have been playing and registered in their chosen sport within the last 12 month period (or last season). These selection trials are only offered to year 5 and 6 students. After informing the students, I have had a small number of students express interest in nomination for selection. If that was your child, a Compass event will pop up today for you to give permission, pay the $8 levy and any extra information that is needed for you about the day. Please be aware that it is parent responsibility to get students to and from this event. I will not be in attendance. Any questions, please get in contact with me as soon as possible.

All information about Diocesan sports events is well communicated on the Armidale Diocesan Primary Sports Council Facebook Page. This includes postponements and event photos. Please ensure you take the time to like this page, so you have access to the most up to date information on Diocesan sports events.
