Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

Welcome to another exciting week at our school! As we end Week 7, there have been several significant events and opportunities taking place that I wanted to share and highlight.

Blue Mountains Grammar School Year 9 Camp took place last week. A week of abseiling, rock climbing, canyoning, canoeing and hiking has created a lifetime of stories. More importantly, friendships have been forged, new courage discovered and a deeper understanding of the value of going to school in a World Heritage-Listed location. This is a photo of Year 9 Deane House campers in the T Slot at Deep Pass.

On Tuesday 5th March, our Year 12 English Advanced class attended a Tempest Symposium. On Thursday 7th March, our Year 11 & 12 Visual Arts students visited the NSW Art Gallery, where they attended a lecture about Art Express and looked through the Art Express finalist student’s exhibition. What a wonderful opportunity for our senior students to prepare for their own HSC major work!

On Friday 8th March, we celebrated the Phenomenal Women of BMGS and Inspiring Inclusion!

To all the brilliant, resilient, and inspiring women in our BMGS community, International Women’s Day was a day to celebrate everyone! Their strength, intelligence, and determination lit the way for us all, and as we embraced the 2024 campaign theme of "Inspire Inclusion," we recognized the pivotal role each of them played in creating a more inclusive world. From breaking barriers in STEM to leading with compassion and empathy, they were the heart and soul of our community. We continued to uplift, support, and empower each other, that day and every day, as we worked towards a more inclusive tomorrow.

Over the weekend our sport teams did extremely well in the Finals! Our Firsts Girls and Junior B won their games. Our Firsts and Junior Girls Touch Football teams made it to the Finals, however lost their games. Congratulations to everyone that participated in Summer Sport! A big thank you to Mrs Harris for all of her hard work in organising BMGS Summer Sport and to all of our MIC’s and coaches for the passion they bring to the sport. I look forward to the upcoming presentation nights, where we can celebrate together.

Our F1 team are in Adelaide this week. We wish them all the very best and we will keep you all posted! Here are some photos of our F1 Team at the airport and in Adelaide getting ready for the competition.

Years 7 & 9 have started NAPLAN this week as well. This year's NAPLAN brings a fresh focus on assessing students' skills in literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking, essential for their academic and personal growth. With changes in curriculum and teaching methods, this iteration of NAPLAN aims to provide a comprehensive snapshot of students' abilities while adapting to the evolving educational landscape.

Looking ahead to Week 8, we will be celebrating Harmony Week.  This will include a mufti day (wear orange OR something to reflect cultural heritage), a lunchtime picnic (weather permitting) and an assembly on Wednesday 20th March. All funds raised by the mufti day will go to the Blue Mountains Refugee Action Group.

As always, I encourage all students to make the most of these upcoming events and opportunities. Your participation and engagement play a vital role in creating a vibrant and supportive school community.

Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing you all soon.
