From the Principal

To the Blue Mountains Grammar School Community,

As we venture into this exciting new phase for our school, I am filled with healthy anticipation about the future. As you will be aware, we have begun work on developing a clear intention for the future of our school and what we offer your family and your child. We are working closely with David Runge from the Future Schools Alliance as we explore our possibilities. We know that we are a unique community in a unique location, and we want to celebrate that as we imagine the future.

Reflecting on the recent newsletter article by Chris Sanders, our Director of Innovative Pedagogies, inclusivity is crucial in shaping our school's future. Through co-design, we can tap into our community's collective wisdom, experiences, and aspirations. This approach fosters a sense of ownership and cultivates a culture of collaboration and transparency.

The understanding that inclusivity breeds innovation is at the heart of our co-design approach. Engaging with a diverse range of perspectives and ideas enriches the fabric of our school. It empowers each community member and ensures that our strategic direction reflects the essence of Blue Mountains Grammar School.

I feel privileged to walk this path with thought leaders like David Runge from the Future Schools Alliance. His thinking challenges us to reimagine the future of education. He does not tell us what to do but is an expert at mining our own experience and research to create new possibilities. By embracing change and exploring new opportunities, we will provide an education that meets the needs of our students in a rapidly changing world.

We are inviting different community stakeholders to actively participate in shaping our school's future. Their voices, perspectives, and insights are invaluable as we navigate the opportunities and challenges ahead. Together, we will chart a course honouring our past while paving the way for an exciting future.

On 18th May this year, we will engage in the annual Strategic Planning Day with the BMGS Board. On that day, we will collate and discuss a lot of the feedback, and in turn, we will formulate a set of intentions that will inform our work in the future. From our work, rather than producing a Strategic Plan, we will deliver a BMGS Playbook to our community. Our playbook will serve as a foundational document for us to stay strategically relevant, consolidating BMGS educational methodologies, practices, and intentions. This playbook will serve as a reference for all stakeholders, providing insight and guidance for continuous improvement.

We will report to you on how the roadmap is progressing each fortnight, providing you with a timeline and some expected deliverables.

As we await this new part of our story, I encourage you to look ahead with optimism, courage, and a commitment to collaboration. We will create a future that honours our traditions, celebrates our successes, and propels Blue Mountains Grammar School to levels of opportunity and excellence.

Warm regards,

Steven Coote

Principal
