Year Two Team News
with Steph, Joel and Georgia
What a busy couple of weeks it has been in Grade 2. The students are feeling well settled in their new environments and have adjusted to their weekly routines within the classroom. We have been very impressed with the positivity and excitement that students are walking into school with each morning. Our two Willy kid topics of kindness and gratitude have been front of mind and we look forward to these two qualities being valued and celebrated in our classrooms throughout the remainder of the year. From an organisation point of view, it has been fantastic to have our students bringing in their blue book every day. We ask that this continues in order to complement our reading program in the classroom.
Meet the Teacher Night:
Thank you to all the parents who attended our Meet the Teacher evening on Wednesday. It is always a great opportunity for us to learn more about your child and open up a pathway for future discussions on how we can support your child to have a wonderful year.
Parent Helpers in Grade 2:
We ask that all Grade 2 parents wishing to be a parent helper this year contact their child's teacher with their intentions and follow all the information that has been on compass from the school to meet our schools protocols.
In Grade 2, being a parent helper can be a lot of different things. At this stage, the areas that we will require parent help will be:
JSC Representatives
Congratulations to all the students who prepared speeches for Junior School Council elections. We are all very proud of how our students stood up and shared all the ways they would make our school and community a better place to be. Our Grade 2 JSC representatives this year are:
2J- Nevaeh O
2K- Chloe W
2G- Amelia C
Curriculum Focus: Weeks 5 - 6
Literacy: Over the next two weeks, we will be focusing on correct sentence structure and the correct use of capital letters and full stops.
Numeracy: Students are learning about addition and subtraction. With the use of hands-on materials, we will be using a wide range of strategies to enhance our ability to accurately add and subtract numbers.
Inquiry: Next week, we will be starting our inquiry unit for the remainder of Term 1. Our unit is called ‘Where are we and what is around us?’ We have already asked our students this question and discussed their views on this question. We look forward to reflecting on these discussions and building on the students' knowledge about our local area over the next couple of weeks.
Willy Kids: Through the pillar of Respect, we are learning about being sociable and what that looks like both at school and in the wider community.
Until next time,
The Grade Two Team - Steph Keswick (2K), Joel Kitchen (2J) & Georgia Grainger (2G)
