Term 1 - Willy Kids are Respectful

Weeks 5 & 6: Willy Kids are Sociable

Being sociable means being willing to talk and engage in activities with others and relating well to those around us, such as our teachers, parents and peers. Being sociable also means being friendly to everyone. When we are friendly to others, we are being polite, courteous and inclusive. Research shows that having a strong social network of supportive people around us is an important part of life - it ensures that we are healthy, both physically and emotionally.

Willy Kids are friendly and include others in their games and activities. We are polite and well-mannered when we interact with those around us and we care about the feelings of others. By using words such as ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’ we can show respect to those around us. Being sociable allows us to build strong relationships and boost feelings of well-being for ourselves and others. These simple acts of kindness can go a long way to brighten someone’s day!

Willy Kids are sociable when we:

  • Say ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’
  • Are polite and courteous towards others
  • Include others in our games and activities
  • Show that we are friendly
  • Remember to smile
  • Make-eye contact and actively show that we are listening (5Ls of Listening)
