3/4 News

Congratulations to our Grade Three students for the wonderful resilience and effort you have displayed as you began NAPLAN this week. Thank you to our Grade Four students for being patient with changes across the week while NAPLAN was happening and for supporting the Grade 3's.

Maths

Inspired by the towers created on Minecraft, using their knowledge of multiplication and division, students built various towers using only 36 blocks to begin with.

Inquiry

Last week, 3/4's practised their oral language skills as they shared family stories with other students. This activity assisted students to practise telling stories so that they can improve this skill and so that we can also appreciate the value and histories of oral storytelling traditions.

Students have also learned about the lives of convicts who were transported to Australia in 1787. We discovered that convicts awaiting transportation to Australia made a 'Love Token' which were given to friends and loved ones before they left as mementos. If you are interested, you can explore the Convicts Love Tokens here

For Inquiry this week students have began planning and creating two artefacts for their showcase: an artefact that a convict or marine would have used and an artefact that a member of the First Peoples of Australia would have used in their day-to-day life.

Family and friends are welcome to attend our 3/4 Inquiry First Contact Showcase which will take place on the last day of school, Thursday March the 28th at 9:30am (after assembly.

Writing

This week our writing has linked to our Inquiry topic.  Students started to write two journal entries from the perspective of someone who would have used each artefact that they have chosen to research and create. In their journal entry, students need to mention how the artefact was used in day-to-day life and include some language used from that time.
