What a big week at TPS

Mr Hogan

Where is this term going? We only have 2 weeks left of what has been an absolutely jam packed Term 1. It is amazing to see how well our 30 new Prep students have settled in already.

Next week we have a special Body Awareness program, run by Bravehearts, International Day of Happiness and Ride 2 School day all happening.

Lawn Bowls Success

We took 4 teams to the Moama Bowling Club on Wednesday, March 6th to compete in the Inter school Lawn Bowls tournament.

It was a fantastic day, and our students were such great representatives of our school.

The competition was red hot, and our students played the game brilliantly all day.

In the end we had 3 out of our 4 teams qualify for the finals, with 2 of our sides winning the day overall, which means they now progress through to the Regional stage in October.

A huge thank you to our amazing coaches, Mr T, Geoff Tinning, Baz Cuttriss and Bernie Tinning for training and coaching our students.

NAPLAN

Congratulations to our Grade 3 and 5 students, who have been taking part in the NAPLAN testing this week.

NAPLAN is a national benchmark assessment, that shows both student achievement, but also whole school areas for improvement. We use our NAPLAN data effectively to establish whole school goals, and identify areas of strength and for further improvement.

Individually, the NAPLAN results form a part of the overall assessment of a students abilities and is treated as such.

We hope to have the results from NAPLAN back much quicker than in previous years.

Welcome (back) Mrs Harvie

We are so fortunate to Welcome back Mrs Judith Harvie to Tongala PS in an Education Support officer role.

Jude was an ES at our school for many years, before going to work in the Aged Care sector for the past 4 years.

Over her time in Education, Jude has helped support and mould the lives of many students, and we are so lucky to have her back at our school to continue working with our students.

International Day of Happiness

Next Wednesday is International Day of Happiness. This was a day that our Young Leaders identified as a great opportunity to have some fun, and be happy.

Students are encouraged to wear bright clothes next Wednesday, and will participate in a range of activities throughout the day.

We will be having a DJ playing at recess and lunchtime to keep the mood of the day fun throughout. I wonder who the DJ may be??

Ride 2 School Day

Then on Friday, we will be celebrating National Ride 2 School day. Students are encouraged to Ride or Scoot to school if possible. If unable to do this, we encourage students to actively walk to school.

A walking school bus will leave the Tongala Police Station at 8:40am on Friday, and students and families are invited to meet there and walk to school together.

End of term organisation

Our final day of Term 1 is on Thursday, March 28th with a 1:30pm finish.

Uniform

School beanies are available from the school office for $15. These are now part of our School Uniform and will be very handy come the colder months.

School's Out

It is great to see families using our School's Out after school care service. We need to keep building this service, as it is a great opportunity for families to balance working commitments, but also increase student socialisation.

The program runs 5 days a week until 6pm, and students get afternoon tea, and participate in fun, themed based activities in a non-threatening environment.

We encourage families to register their children, as you may never know when you require the service, and the registration process is quick, easy and no commitment to use on a regular basis.
