Catch-Ups:

Crochet Turtles for New Entrants:

From this year onwards, every new five-year-old who starts at Western Heights receives a small green and purple crocheted turtle - made with love by Nana Rose (my mum-in-law).

So far, the verdict has been very positive - our juniors love them.

Congratulations to two ex-pupils now Waitakere College Prefects for 2024.

Kaiarataki - Student Councillors - 2024:

We will have photos to share soon. In the meantime, congratulations to:

New Student Health Improvement for WHS:

We are regularly faced with children who are in a distressed state - with a minor injury but one that means they are unable or disabled to get themselves to our Recovery Room for treatment. This has led to children being carried - by Shane or myself - or assisted to hobble slowly to the Recovery Room.

On two recent occasions, a child with a broken arm had to walk very slowly and gingerly out to a car to then be transported to hospital. On many occasions when the ambulance takes too long, we have to send children to the hospital with parents or staff.

At my last school, we had a stretcher with two heavy wooden poles - which was just so unsuitable.

Therefore, I have purchased a portable student-sized wheelchair to meet all of the above needs, and which collapses sufficiently to fit in the back or boot of a small car - at a discount price of $450.

Our new netting protection on one side and at one end of our covered court is an excellent addition to our school property set up. Our children can play with much more freedom, much less mud, and without risk of sending balls into neighbouring properties.

Now we have added two fixed goals and that has taken games and competitions t the next level.
