NAPLAN

We are currently halfway through our NAPLAN testing. Other than a few minor technical issues, which are to be expected given the scope of the huge numbers of students participating, our testing has gone very smoothly.

NAPLAN online testing is adaptive which means that each test is tailored to individual students based on their test responses as the test progresses. As a result of this the test is not too hard nor too easy – just enough of a challenge to make students think.

The greatest benefit of NAPLAN is its ability to combine the results of all our students to tell us, as a school, areas of strength and areas where we can refine our practices in our delivery of the curriculum. This in turn helps to inform our teaching, planning and focuses.

The results will be available in Term 3.

Thank you to the Year 3 (Miss Boydell, Miss Newbold, Miss Dent and Miss Peters) and the Year 5 teachers (Ms Testro, Mrs Dwyer, Mrs Connor, Mr Lee and Miss Robison) for managing the testing and supporting the students through the testing.

Next week the Year 3’s will undertake Reading, Conventions of Language, and Numeracy and I will complete any catch-up tests of students who have been absent.

PLANNING DAY

Next Friday is our whole school Planning Day, our teachers (both class teachers and specialist teachers) work extremely hard on planning days to design sequences of lessons for the following term.

They take into account what the students already know about a topic, what they need to know to move further with their understandings and work hard on finding different ways to engage the students in their learning. The dedication of our teachers to your students learning is exceptional – your children are in very capable hands. Our planning days are invaluable to give teachers dedicated time to ensuring we have a well-rounded and differentiated curriculum.

SUSTAINABILITY

If you would like to help out with the soft plastics, please email me. Now that we have moved to being Nude Food every day the reduction in our soft plastics is huge so this job could be done fortnightly instead of weekly. It can be shared amongst a few parents so it could be a job that you may only need to help out with once each term.

It simply involves collecting the bag of soft plastics from outside Miss Richards office and dropping it off at the Monash Recycling Centre on Ferntree Gully Rd.

Thank you to 2EB and 6TJ for keeping the yard tidy over the last two weeks.
