BSC Assembly of Achievement

On Monday 4th March, Bairnsdale Secondary College were pleased to welcome students and families to our first whole school assembly in five years.

 

During this assembly we acknowledged and celebrated the students of our College in a range of fields including leadership, sporting, musical and academic achievements. It is important to recognise the outstanding efforts these students have made to achieve their goals, engage in life changing experiences and to contribute to their own learning.

 

These Year 12 leaders are integral to our college and have a significant role in representing and advocating for our students. These students have been selected for demonstrating an ongoing commitment to our college values and strong engagement in the school community and their learning.

Bus Captains

These students are elected by Bus Drivers and are responsible for encouraging and modelling respectful behaviour in and around the bus transit zone. Students at our college are encouraged to speak to these leaders as a first point of call for all bus travel feedback.

Mitchell was identified as being in the top 13% of Year 10 Maths students in Australia for 2023

We would like to acknowledge Lara as a winner of the Heywire storytelling competition. Heywire is a lived experience storytelling competition from the ABC, calling for stories from young people aged between 16-22 in regional, rural and remote Australia. Lara’s piece on the 2019 Bushfires was deemed among the top 35 literacy pieces in Australia.

Lara enjoyed 5 days in Canberra meeting with the top writers, journalists and politicians, including our Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

Congratulations to Mackenzie and Alex for being accepted as a Rural Youth Ambassadors for 2024.

The Rural Youth Ambassadors program provides young people within rural communities the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and capacity.

The Program involves Four face to face forums in Melbourne over the course of the year. During these forums, the Rural Youth Ambassadors will be involved in a range of leadership development activities, conversations focused on rural and remote life and learning; meet with the Minister for Education as well as present at education workshops, forums, and conferences.

We would also like to recognise the outstanding achievements of Year 11 student Nyla and Year 9 students Sienna and Sara

On Sunday the 25th of February these three girls participated and represented the Gippsland pride against Dandenong and won with a score of 178. 

To be selected they had to be nominated by the league and to go to country week which they were then selected to represent Gippsland and all females who play cricket. 

House Captains

Sport is a very important feature of the Bairnsdale Secondary College life. The College is proud of its record and achievements in the sporting field. We are so excited to reintroduce the position of House Captains.

Swimming Sports

The encouragement between houses was tremendous, with fierce competition that occurred in the water. The overall sporting shield for most team points went to BOGONG defeating second place CURLIP by 43 points. CURLIP won the Team Spirit Shield.
