Empowering Innovation:

A Glimpse into the Year 7 Three-Day Program

Creating Futures Together

This past week, our Year 7 students embarked on an engaging three-day educational journey, crafted to inspire and nurture their innovative spirits. From Tuesday through Thursday, our young learners split into groups, with each embarking on a distinct, enriching path towards creativity and learning.

Girls Innovate in STEM with Monash Tech School

In a remarkable collaboration with Monash Tech School, our Year 7 girls were led by Chelsea, a proud Wheelers Hill Secondary College alumna and current educator at Monash Tech School. This program was not only an exploration of artificial intelligence tools but a deep dive into design thinking methodologies. Chelsea guided our students through the intricate process of envisioning what a future school might look like - from classrooms that adapt to the needs of every student, to uniforms that reflect their values. The creativity and insight displayed by our students were nothing short of inspiring, signalling a bright future for our girls in STEM.

Adding to the excitement, Ms. Natalie Benfield organised delightful afternoons on both Wednesday and Thursday. These sessions provided our girls with a well-deserved break, fostering camaraderie and joy amidst the learning.

Boys' Adventure in Design and Strategy

Simultaneously, our Year 7 boys delved into a program rich in design and strategic thinking. Led by Mr. Andrew Steele and Mr. Brian Yong, the boys tackled challenges ranging from bridge and tower designing to mastering the game of chess. Finding the chess champion in each class added a competitive edge to the fun, while literacy scavenger hunts infused learning with adventure. The boys' program was a testament to the power of hands-on learning and its impact on student engagement and understanding.

A Heartfelt Thank You

As we reflect on these three days of exploration, creativity, and growth, we extend our deepest gratitude to all students who participated with such energy and enthusiasm. Your willingness to embrace new challenges and opportunities is what makes Wheelers Hill Secondary College a vibrant and dynamic community. A special thanks also goes to the dedicated teachers and coordinators, Chelsea, Ms. Natalie Benfield, Mr. Andrew Steele, and Mr. Brian Yong, and all the staff who assisted in the programs for their exceptional leadership and commitment to our students' learning experiences.
