Principal's Report

Family Getaway Weekend
It was wonderful to hear about the fabulous time had by the 150 families who attended the weekend getaway at Healesville! Despite the weather not being perfect the whole time, it sounds like everyone made the most of the opportunity to connect and enjoy the weekend together. A huge thank you to the organising committee for making this special event possible - your efforts are so appreciated.
Year 3 Working Bee
The Senior Campus looked spick and span after our Year 3 Working Bee on Sunday 19th October! Some of the tasks completed included removing rubbish from the old art room (in readiness for the major building works) weeding, cleaning drains, pruning and blowing. Dimi and I are so grateful to all the parents and children that were able to help out. It is very gratifying to drive away from the school knowing everything looks so much nicer, cleaner and well cared for!
Thank you to the following school community members and families for helping to make our Senior Campus look extra neat and tidy: Yang Cao, Lei Chen, Dan Fine, Casey and Rob Galinsky, Lee-at Jacobson, Babak Kahvazadeh, Katrina Koenig, Darren, Robyn and Zac Krawitz, Stephen Metz, Naoko Nishikawa, Beth and Grant Poulter, Sanaz Pourahmadi, Dima Pudel, Andrew Rubin, Dimi Sfetsas, Vincent Zhang. Sincere apologies if your name is not on this list but we appreciate your help all the same!
World Gardenvale Staff Day – Celebrating Our Amazing Team
This Friday, 31st October, Australia will celebrate World Teachers’ Day. At Gardenvale Primary School, we will be celebrating World Gardenvale Staff Day - a special occasion to recognise and thank all our dedicated staff.
It truly takes an army of passionate, skilled, and caring individuals to ensure our school runs smoothly, purposefully, and continues to provide outstanding educational programs for our students. We are so grateful for the incredible efforts of every member of our team who educate, inspire, support, and care for our students each and every day.
Our wonderful PFA have kindly organised a special morning tea for our staff this Friday. We know our staff would also deeply appreciate a thank you message from students and parents - a small gesture that means a great deal.
Let’s come together to celebrate the people who make Gardenvale PS such a special place to learn and grow!
Team Kids
Next week, building works will commence in the MPC to convert the space into two Year 4 classrooms, an administration area and a staff room for 2026. As a result, Team Kids will be relocating to the Junior Hall for at least the next 18 months.
From next Monday at 3:30pm, Senior students attending aftercare will meet Team Kids staff under the COLA before walking together to the Junior Campus.
Swimming Program
Our Year 3 to 5 Swimming Program at Waves Swimming Pool commences Wednesday 5th November and will conclude on Friday 14th November. Then it will be our Junior Campus students turn to be involved in the swimming program for 9 sessions from Monday 17th November.
Classes for 2026
A reminder that Wednesday, 5th November, is the cut-off date for class placement requests from parents. If you still intend to make a request, please read further in the newsletter, the article, from Dimi Sfetsas regarding our process and procedure for class placements for 2026. Families who are not returning to Gardenvale PS (apart from Year 6 students) in 2026 are asked to inform the office in writing. This will assist with forward planning and class structures for the coming year.
Have a lovely week,
Janine hall
