Respectful, Safe and Engaged – Strengthening Our Shared Expectations
The Department of Education has released the new Respectful, safe, engaged: shared expectations to support student behaviour statement. This state-wide resource outlines clear behaviour expectations for all Victorian government schools and highlights the important role families play in supporting their child’s behaviour and wellbeing.
At Launch PS, this new statement aligns closely with our established School-Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB) approach. We already teach, model and reinforce the positive behaviours that help students be respectful, safe and engaged every day. The shared expectations statement strengthens this work by helping schools and families use a common language and ensuring consistent messages across the state.
What this means for our community
Students are expected to be respectful, safe and engaged—behaviours already embedded in our SWPB matrix.
Families play an essential role by supporting school expectations, modelling positive behaviour, encouraging regular attendance and partnering with staff when challenges arise.
Schools continue to provide a safe, inclusive environment through explicit teaching, strong wellbeing supports and clear processes for addressing concerns.
Throughout 2026, we will begin discussing this statement with our community to ensure we all share the same understanding and expectations. During our next policy review cycle, we will also update our Statement of Values and School Philosophy to include the new behavioural expectations section.
Together, through SWPB and these strengthened shared expectations, we continue to build a school where every child feels they belong, learn and thrive.
🎄 Christmas Concert – Thursday 4th December
A friendly reminder that our annual LPPS Christmas Concert will be held on Thursday 4th December on the netball court. This special event is always a highlight on our calendar and a wonderful opportunity for our whole school community to come together, celebrate our students, and enjoy a relaxed evening after a very busy year.
Picnic from 5:00pm
Families are invited to bring picnic rugs, chairs, and their picnic dinner to enjoy from 5:00pm.Please remember that smoking and the consumption of alcohol on school property is against the law and therefore not permitted.
Staff will be running a sausage sizzle and selling icy-poles and drinks.
Carols from 6:00pm
Our Christmas Carols will begin at 6:00pm. This will be a simple, low-key evening focused on togetherness and festive cheer.
We look forward to seeing students, parents, grandparents and friends join us for this joyful end-of-year celebration.
School Swimming Program – Keeping Our Students Safe
Our school swimming program is an important part of teaching children vital water-safety skills, and we are pleased that this year’s program has been heavily subsidised by both federal and state funding, keeping the cost to families at just $10 per student.
Our Senior Swimming Program ran successfully from 10–14 November, with students building confidence and practicing essential water-safety techniques. The Junior Swimming Program will take place next week, from 24–28 November.
We thank families for supporting this valuable program. It plays a key role in keeping children safe in and around water—an essential life skill for all young Australians.
School Uniform (Including Hats)
We have noticed an increase in students attending school without the correct uniform in recent weeks. A reminder that full school uniform, including a school hat, is required for all students every day.
Our uniform supplier has a full range of items available for purchase should families need replacements or additional pieces. We hope to see all students back in full uniform next week.
There is also a large amount of unnamed uniform in our lost property containers, located just outside the staffroom in the main building. Please ensure all items are clearly named so they can be returned promptly, and we encourage families to check the tubs for any missing belongings.
Thank you for your support in helping our students represent our school with pride.
Thunderstorm Asthma Awareness
From October to December, parts of Victoria are at higher risk of experiencing Thunderstorm Asthma—a sudden and severe asthma flare-up caused by a combination of high pollen levels and specific storm conditions. These events can affect both children and adults, including people with asthma or hay fever who may not usually experience breathing difficulties.
At school, on days where the risk is elevated, staff carefully monitor conditions and may relocate outdoor activities (such as PE) indoors to reduce exposure and help keep students safe.
How Families Can Stay Informed
Families are encouraged to monitor Thunderstorm Asthma forecasts using the following resources:
Vic Health Thunderstorm Asthma Risk Forecast
Melbourne Pollen Count & Forecast App
VicEmergency App
(Links to these resources are available on their respective websites.)
Medication and Preparedness
If your child is prone to asthma, hay fever, or uses preventative medication, please ensure:
Their medication is clearly named
Medication is current and not expired
A supply is kept at the school office, if needed during the day
More information about Thunderstorm Asthma can be found on the Department of Health website.
Thank you for helping us keep all students safe during this high-risk period.
