We've hit the half way mark of the Term Four! We can't believe it! It's been a busy time with swimming starting, lots of end of year assessments, end of year preparations and of course, lots of learning still to complete!
Reminders:
Here's a little recap of what we've been covering in the classroom:
Reading: Most recently, we have been exploring Point-of-View through our focus text. Students have developed their understanding of whether the story is in first, second or third person and whose perspective the story is told from. They have also then analysed the importance of the story being told by this character and how this impacts our understanding of the character themself and the overall story.
Writing: We have now moved into poetry in our writing. We have so far created sensory poems (using figurative language and the five senses to create descriptive imagery), Quatrain poems (using rhyme and rhyme scheme to develop stanzas) and Haiku poems (exploring syllables and following the 5,7,5 structure).
Maths: Our main focus in Maths has been on perimeter and area. Students have revised the correct formulas and processes for calculating perimeter an area, exploring regular and irregular shapes. They have also been challenged to show their understanding by responding to worded problems.
Humanities: Our Civics & Citizenship unit has been highly engaging. In our most recent lessons, we have learnt about and investigated the different levels of Government in Australia (local, state, federal) and what they are responsible for. We have also explored Australia's preferential voting system and modelled a mock election voting process. Next week we will run a mock campaign using this knowledge.
