Blessing and Commissioning of Leaders

This Sunday 16 November at the Parish Masses at St Joseph’s Warragul at 9.00am and St Ita’s Drouin at 10.30am our 2026 College Captains will be blessed and commissioned into their role of school leadership.

What is a blessing and commissioning and why do we do it?

The blessing and commissioning is a prayer to activate the gifts of our young people as they enter their leadership role. It is a way that we can recognise them and support them as a community and it is a way that our parishioners can identify the good works and talents of our young people, who they will continue to pray for throughout the year.

There will also be a blessing of the parents and carers of our leaders, so that they can be strengthened in their role of support for our student leaders.

If you are not familiar with attending Mass and you are feeling a little self-conscious, please know that this is not an uncommon practice in Catholic Masses. It is a way that we can acknowledge your role and recognise that leadership is never undertaken as an individual pursuit, that we always rely on the people who love us for support.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Masses, it would be a wonderful way for our community to support our future leaders.

Campus Heart – Our Charism

Our Campus Heart project is open and the students have embraced the new, beautifully landscaped area of our school yard. If you have a walk around you may notice that there are some words embedded in the concrete. These include the five characteristics of the Marist charism: Presence, Simplicity, Family Spirit, Love of Work and In the Way of Mary; as well as the references to our Sion charism: Mystery of the Divine, Reign of God, Community of Creation ad God is Love, which are embedded in the concrete seating.

If you have ever wondered what makes our community welcoming to all, take some time to sit with each of these elements of who we are, because they are a vital part of our identity.

Br Doug Walsh and the West Heidelberg Bread Run

If your child has ever attended the West Heidelberg Bread Run they have no doubt met the formidable Marist Brother, Br Doug Walsh. Br Doug has spent his entire adult life serving those in need in the community and inspiring social justice in those around him.

Br Doug is experiencing a terminal illness and is in hospital being cared for. We ask that everyone pray for Br Doug during this time.

Friday Morning Mass

Most Friday’s during the school term we have the privilege of celebrating Mass in our beautiful Chapel. Mass is held from 8.10-8.35am and everyone is welcome. If you would like to join us, please arrive a couple of minutes early to sign-in on the iPad at the back of the Chapel. Staff, students, families and community members are all welcome.
