Selamat Siang semuanya,

It's been a colourful and energetic start to Term 4 in the Performing Arts space! We have lots to look forward to, and preparations are ongoing for Pleasant Day Out, the whole school Christmas Concert and musical celebrations for the Grade 6 Graduation.

The Grade 3-6 classes are nearing the end of their group projects, and their multi-sensory Dreamtime stories are looking, sounding and feeling fantastic. The students have taken on the challenge of re-telling their chosen story to create a dynamic experience for the reader that extends beyond the written word.

They have explored instrumental and digital sound creation, recorded their own voices, created instruments from everyday items and sourced sound effects to construct a layered soundscape designed to engage the reader on a whole new level. It is wonderful to see their musical knowledge and technical skills grow!

An important part of our learning space is 'warming up' our sessions with music and movement. The Grade 5/6s have enjoyed the timing, teamwork, and coordination challenge of 'Catch the scarf'; some snapshots of them in action are provided for your enjoyment.

The Foundation to Grade 2 classes have been learning group performance pieces - shared songs that each class has learned a part of, with these parts coming together to create a whole level performance piece. The room has certainly been busy with singing and dancing, and the students should be so proud of the way they engage in these opportunities with energy and enthusiasm.

All Junior students have been extending their knowledge of the Orff rhythm syllables and learning the associated body percussion movements. This is a great way for our smallest musicians to explore and create rhythms through both tactile interaction and visual form. Students start their sessions with warm-up games and experiences that are not only active and fun, but also serve as a lead-in to the learning focus of the session.
