From the Principal
2023
What another big year it has been yet again at Camelot Rise Primary School! The 2023 school year is ending, and Christmas is just around the corner. We have had another
incredibly successful in all areas and our school was recently identified as an ‘Influence’ school in our annual School Performance Report. This is the highest classification a school can receive. This is a fantastic result and one that we are incredibly proud of!
Every Department of Education school receives a School Performance Report at the end of the academic year and based on the results each school receives a classification. A school’s overall performance group represents the combined performance based on ‘Achievement, School Climate, Student Attitudes, Engagement and Participation’.
To be classified as an ‘Influence’ school a school must achieve results that show ‘Performance is high or very high. This level of performance is maintained consistently over three years or is on a positive improvement trajectory with the school acting as an influencer and system leader’.
These results are only achieved due to the combined and remarkable efforts of our students, families and staff. Congratulations to the entire Camelot Rise Primary School community.
Our goal for 2024 remains to ensure that all our students are achieving their best possible outcomes and we have already started working towards that goal. Your children’s new teachers will be briefed on each child’s point of need for the start of next year as part of our ‘Teacher handover / Transition to 2024’.
Early in the new school year, we will offer our ‘Getting to Know You Interviews’ where parents and teachers can discuss their goals for the year ahead. We will also conduct Parent Information Nights in Term One where parents can learn about what to expect in each year level throughout the school.
Given the popularity of attending these interviews on WebEx, we will most likely offer both an online and an in-person option again next year.
Slime Run 4 Fun
What an overwhelming success! Thank you to the many parents and community members that assisted last Monday. It was great seeing so many parents watching this event laughing as the children got ‘slimed’. We had perfect weather and the feedback from students, parents and staff was incredibly positive.
Thank you to Kerryn Wardle and Amanda Neary who worked so hard to ensure this event was such a wonderful event for our school community. Thank you to all those who sponsored or who sought sponsorship for their child – your donations raised $10,000 for the school which will be used for purchasing new Physical Education and Sporting equipment that all students will benefit from. Mr Stillman has been busy putting together his ‘wish list’. When this equipment arrives at our school (early in 2024) Mr Stillman will take a photo off all the new sporting goods so our community can see what our fundraising has managed to purchase for our students.
Christmas Concert
We are all looking forward to our Christmas Concert this Thursday, 14th December
(weather permitting) commencing at 5.00pm. (Food trucks will be here from 4.30pm). It is great that we can now hold these events again and we look forward to another wonderful community event.
All classes will be performing on the night and this year we will have a performance by our ‘Camelot Rise 3- and 4-year-old Playgroup’. We are looking forward to seeing all classes and our Playgroup performing on the night.
It promises to be a fun evening.
Farewell to the Class of 2023!
Our 2023 Year Six students are now in their final weeks of primary school. We are very
much looking forward to the Year 6 Graduation and Awards night that will be held on Monday, 18th December.
It is an exciting time for any young person to move from the sanctuary of their primary school and take the challenge of entering secondary school. We would like to wish them all a very fond farewell from Camelot Rise Primary School. We know our school has provided these students with the skills and confidence to take on any challenge they face in the coming years. I would also like to farewell all the families that are departing Camelot Rise Primary School for a variety of reasons.
We hope that wherever you go you will look back fondly at your time at Camelot Rise Primary School.
School reports - Friday, 8th December
Our December Student Reports were ‘live’ last Friday, 8th December. Please take time to read though your child’s report and discuss with them their achievements, their attitude towards their learning and future learning goals.
A final reminder to parents of Year 6 students as well as families who are leaving the school to please download all the reports from Compass before the last day of term. Once the term finishes, those families will no longer have access to Compass.
Thanks to the teaching staff that spend many hours preparing and producing these reports.
School Leadership positions for 2024
Last Friday we announced the 2024 Student Leadership Positions. This is a very detailed process involving students preparing and presenting speeches to their peers and teachers. Students and staff were invited to vote for the leadership positions. The students that were shortlisted for the roles of School Captain also had an ‘interview’ with Mr Heys, Mrs Newstead, Mrs Yoong and myself.

2024 Transition Day
Today all students met their 2024 classmates and teacher/s. Your child was handed a notice that stated the class they are in, their teacher and the location of their classroom.
Reading
With the school holidays looming, I thought now was a good time to remind families of the benefits of regular reading habits. Whilst we expect students to read every night as part of
their homework routine, we truly want them to want to read every night for enjoyment. We hope this continues over the holidays and that our students can continue to keep up their reading habits. Research shows that the summer break leads to approximately a two-week drop-in literacy skill for some students. For those that read regularly, they go the other way and can gain more than a month in terms of learning growth, simply by enjoying a book here and there and reading before bedtime.
2024 School Year
All students in Year 1 – 6 commence school on Tuesday 30th January.
Our 2024 Foundation students will commence school on Monday, 5th February. This later start date will provide time for the Foundation teachers to complete the necessary testing requirements prior to the Foundation students starting at school.
End of term dismissal and bell times for Wednesday, 20th December
9.00am – 10.40am – Students in their classrooms
10.40am – 11.10am – Recess time
11.10am – 1.30pm – Students will be in their classrooms

Students must be collected by parents and guardians by 1.45pm. Teachers will be on Yard Duty until 1.45pm. The Camp Australia Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) Program will commence from 1.30pm on this day.
Classes for all students will conclude at 1.30pm on Wednesday 20th December.
Have a wonderful holiday!
We would like to wish all students, parents, and staff a wonderful Christmas and holiday
season with their families. We would like to thank everyone who works so hard to make Camelot Rise Primary School such a fantastic school.
We appreciate the opportunity to work with your children each day. This relationship between school and home is vitally important and we know that our students benefit from the great relationship we have with our community.
Again, thanks for a wonderful year.
Finally, if you and your family use our school grounds during the holidays and see any suspicious activity, please call DET Emergency Management 9589 6266 or Glen Waverley Police 9566 1555 or 000.
