Important Reminders

A warm and hearty welcome back to our St George’s families. It is most lovely to have the school buzzing again with the energy and enthusiasm of our wonderful students.

As we settle in to Term One, having now reached the end of Week 3, it is timely to remind students of a number of important expectations that we uphold at the school which they need to undertake in a consistent manner.

Uniforms

Many students are wearing their uniform with pride, compliant with our Uniform Policy. However, a reminder to students that shirts are to be constantly tucked in – many students are in need of a belt to help with this. Some hems on dresses need to be lowered, or a new summer dress might need to be purchased if a growth spurt has occurred over the summer break. Please can I ask that all families check this with their child.

Jewellery

Students are reminded of the parameters around wearing jewellery whilst at school.

  • One pair (or a single) of plain gold or silver round studs (no larger than 5mm) or sleepers (no larger than 12mm), may be worn in the ear lobe in the first hole only.
  •  Multiple earrings may not be worn.
  •  Diamond and/or pearl or loop earrings are not permitted.
  • Visible piercings are not permitted. This includes piercings in the tongue and the nose.
  • Necklaces are not to be visible other than a simple cross and chain.
  • All other forms of jewellery which are not listed above are not permitted whilst in School Uniform and must be removed.
  •  Any jewellery that does not comply may be confiscated and so this weekend is a great time to remove jewellery that does not meet these guidelines.

Lift Use

The expectation around the use of the lifts at St George’s is transparent to all students. Mrs Campbell has put a clear notices in the SEQTA notices which PCG Tutors read to their students each morning.

  • Year 12s are allowed to use the lifts – it is a Year 12 priviledge
  • Year 11 and 12 students are allowed to use the lifts at CQU.
  • Students with a lift pass (list is inside lift) or temporary lift pass can use the lift throughout the day.
  • Year 7 to 11 students can use the lift, ONCE, at the start of the day to take their bag to their locker. After that time, they are to use the stairs throughout the day.o    All students are able to use the lift at the end of the day with their bags to head home.
  • If staff need to get in a lift, and it is full, students are expected to get out - even those with lift passes and Year 12s.
  • We ask that all students respect these parameters so that the life for all within the building is an easier one.

Allergies

Another important reminder is regarding our position as an allergy-aware school. St George’s is committed to providing a safe school environment for all of our students and we wish to protect those who suffer from severe nut allergies and could be in danger of life-threatening anaphylactic reaction.

Whilst St George’s is not a nut-free school, students are encouraged to not bring nuts and nut products to School.

Further information regarding our Nut Awareness Policy can be found in the Parent and Student Handbook, that is available on the welcome page of SEQTA.

We ask that parents prepare lunches without nuts wherever possible so as to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all members of our School Community.
