Love Your Library

2024 began with welcoming new students to St George’s Anglican Grammar School and introducing them to the Laurence Library. We already have a cohort of faithful readers from last year and they are now joined by new faces. Our first reading classes have seen students successfully navigate selecting, borrowing and also requesting new titles.

Year 7 students were invited to express interest in Lego Club. On Wednesday 7 February the club met at lunchtime to plan their approach to their project; complete the Millenium Falcon. Their first session seemed highly successful and attracted a lot of interest from their Year 7 peers.

This term we are offering Philosophy Club on Wednesday afternoons. This is open to all students and is an informal place for students to discuss philosophy and to learn about philosophy.

Last week we began a discussion about “Just War”. This moved swiftly on to a wide range of ideas. This week we will be joined by more students, and we will start looking at Kant’s Moral Law. I am always amazed at how much I learn every year from young thinkers.

Homework Club, running Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3.30 to 4.30 pm has also been very busy. Students are welcome in the Library to do their homework with support from their subject teachers. This particularly offers lower school students support with their learning in a focused environment where teachers can provide one-on-one support but is open to all students to support them find success academically here at school.
