TIPS FOR DADS AND FATHER FIGURES

(From The Fathering Project)

The first few weeks of getting back into the school groove can feel like a whirlwind. You might notice some extra grumpiness, tantrums, and maybe even a few tears thrown in for good measure.

Starting a new school year means adjusting to different routines, expectations, and faces.

Plus, let's not forget about all that brainpower and concentration required for school stuff!

So, when they finally crash back at home with you, it's like they can finally let it all out in a safe space.

During these adjustment weeks, cut yourself some slack and tweak your expectations a bit until things settle down.

                                                                  Top Tips

1. Stay patient and loving

Let them know you understand it's been a long day, but also gently remind them that yelling and screaming isn't the way to go. Take a few deep breaths together and hit the reset button.

2. Let some things slide

Sometimes, you might need to let a few things slide that you'd normally put your foot down about.

3. Sleep, Sleep, Sleep

Don't forget the Zzz's! Make bedtime even earlier if needed during this adjustment period.

                                                      Dad joke of the week

"What did the evil chicken lay? Deviled eggs..."
