Year 4 - Paul Souter, Charlotte Caldarelli, Vivian Nguyen, James Sadler, Eli Dahlenburg

Year 3

Welcome to Year 3 in 2024! We are super excited to have had such a positive start to the year with all of the students coming back smiling and ready to learn! It sounds as though everyone had a relaxing break which is very lucky - as we have a packed Term 1!

Homework Expectations, Diaries & Blue Satchels

As you hopefully know by now, students in Year 3 started homework this week. There was an email with information sent on Monday morning to all parents of students.

Your child should have brought home their homework books on Monday, with the list of expectations and activities that need to be completed before it is due.

This year, we are lucky enough to be able to have a student diary for the Year 3 kids! We are exploring the best ways to use this and get the most out of it. At the moment, we are asking all students to record their nightly reading under the date they have read (please list name of book, minutes spent reading, and have a parent/guardian sign it off). This will be checked each fortnight when homework is due.

Due to the diary, students no longer need their reader folders. These can be left at home.

We ask that diaries come to school each day in the child's blue satchels. These satchels are handy to keep things altogether, put PM reader books or library books safely into or bring home notices and pieces of work. It would be great to encourage students to get into a routine of bringing their satchel and diary to school every day.

Year 3 Camp

A little over a month until students are jumping on the bus and heading towards their first School Camp! There is lots of planning and organising to do before then though!

You would have received an email regarding some information about camp. Please ensure that you have filled in the required information on Compass regarding medical needs, dietary requirements or anything else we need to know about your child for an overnight stay.

Students are getting incredibly excited and although it might be a daunting experience for some of them, it's important to talk highly about camp at home and the amazing time they are going to have!

If you have any further questions, please contact your child's classroom teacher or Kate Yates (Camp Coordinator and Year 3 Team Leader).

House Athletics

House Athletics is being held on Thursday 29th February. All information regarding this has come from Clinton Walsh, and permission form and payment can be found on Compass. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to participate in a range of different sports and experiences.

Students will be asked to bring a small back pack with their snack and lunch, their school hat and a water bottle. There is no need to bring anything else to school on this day.

Students are allowed to wear their house colours - however school uniform rules still apply in that they need to be wearing appropriate shoes, and have shoulders covered.

Contacting Teachers

A reminder that if you are required to pick your child up from school during the day for any reason, to please email the classroom teacher. This will help us ensure that students are ready at the office with their bags packed.

If your child is going to be away from school for any reason, we ask you put this onto Compass, so we are aware of their absence when completing the roll in the morning.

Tissues

Classes would be incredibly appreciative if you were able to donate a box of tissues. With the temperature jumping up and down and hayfever soring, we are always in need of more! Thank you in advance for your contribution.

Meet and greet other families in our school community!

Year 4

We have enjoyed a wonderful start to the year as students have settled successfully back into the routine of school life. Specialist classes and library sessions have now re-commenced, and Spelling Mastery begins on Monday 19th February.

Year 4 classroom teachers (L-R): Eli Dahlenburg, Paul Souter, Charlotte Caldarelli, James Sadler & Vivian Nguyen.

Homework

Year 4

This will be commencing on a fortnightly rotation from next Monday, 19th of February. Homework will be distributed by your child’s teacher every second Monday and due back the following Thursday, meaning that students each have 10 nights to complete the assigned tasks. The aim of the homework is to consolidate skills that are currently being learned in the classroom whilst also providing an opportunity for students to practice personal organisational habits at home.

Offering support to your child when completing homework might be necessary at times, however we suggest that all parents try and encourage as much of an independent approach to finishing the set tasks as possible.

Camp

Year 4

Year 4 Camp will be taking place from Wednesday, 8th of May until Friday, 10th of May at Camp Oasis in Mt Evelyn. The camp provides a wonderful opportunity for students to participate in a range of team-building, social, indoor and outdoor activities whilst having a great time with their school peers. Pre and post-camp activities are conducted in the classroom and the experience is always seen as a memorable one for all students. Further information about the camp will be distributed throughout Term 1.

If you have any questions about camp, please direct your queries to Paul Souter, who is the Year 4 Team Leader and Camp Coordinator (paul.souter@education.vic.gov.au).

Incursion

On February 22nd the children will be attending a musical performance that will enhance their Term 1 Inquiry Topic “Stamp Out Bullying”.  The characters perform song and dance numbers to demonstrate different approaches to resolve the issues of bullying. It focuses on strategies to manage both online and face-to-face bullying.

House Athletics

House Athletics will be held on Thursday 29th February at Bill Stewart Athletics Track. Students will meet at school before taking buses to the track. They will compete in a range of events over the day, including both track and field events. Further details will be given closer to the date, but please keep an eye on QKR as permission will be given through the app, and there is a small cost involved. It’s an incredibly popular day in the Vermont Sports calendar, and we know the students are already looking forward to participating.
