Cross Country Stars Shine at Regional Championships

Four Trafalgar Primary School students proudly represented our school at the Gippsland Regional Cross Country Championships held at Drouin Golf & Country Club on Thursday 4 June.

Having progressed through both school and divisional competition, Peyton H, Havana B, Layla R and Libby B earned the opportunity to compete against the strongest distance runners from across Gippsland. Reaching regional level is an outstanding achievement in itself and reflects the dedication, perseverance, and commitment each student has shown throughout the cross-country season.

All four students performed admirably on a challenging course, producing strong results against a highly competitive field. A special congratulations goes to Peyton H, who delivered an outstanding performance to finish 10th in the 9/10 Girls event with a time of 8:57. By finishing inside the top 10, Peyton has qualified for the School Sport Victoria State Cross Country Championships, where she will compete against the best young distance runners from across Victoria later this year.

Our regional results were:

Peyton H – 10th (9/10 Girls) – State Qualifier

Havana B – 15th (11 Girls)

Layla R – 34th (11 Girls)

Libby B – 34th (12/13 Girls)

We congratulate all four students on their achievements and the way they embraced the challenge of regional competition. We look forward to supporting Peyton as she prepares to represent Trafalgar Primary School at the State Championships in July.

Winter Sports Success Across the District

Our Grade 5-6 students enjoyed an excellent day of competition at the annual District Winter Sports event on Friday 29 May, competing against schools from across the district in AFL, Soccer, Netball and Teeball.

Students embraced the opportunity to put their skills into action after spending time learning and developing each sport during their Physical Education lessons. Across all venues, our teams competed with determination, teamwork, and enthusiasm, producing a number of impressive performances throughout the day.

A highlight was the outstanding success of our Girls Soccer team, who were crowned District Champions and will now progress to the West Gippsland Divisional Finals. Our Boys Netball team also enjoyed a fantastic tournament, finishing runners-up and securing their place at the next stage of competition.

Our AFL Girls team finished 3rd, while the AFL Boys and Soccer Boys teams both finished 4th. Our Teeball team also performed strongly to finish 3rd overall. Meanwhile, our Netball Girls teams competed admirably throughout the day, with all teams contributing to a successful and enjoyable tournament.

The day was filled with plenty of exciting moments, close contests, and outstanding individual and team performances. Most importantly, students challenged themselves, supported their teammates, and represented the school exceptionally well throughout the competition.

Thank you to the staff, parent volunteers, coaches, and supporters who helped make the day possible. We congratulate all students on their efforts and wish our Girls Soccer and Boys/Mixed Netball teams the very best as they prepare for the West Gippsland Divisional Finals.

Winter Sports Player Wrap-Up

Hi, my name is Ashlee and I was captain of the B netball team for Winter Sports. If you didn't already know, Winter Sports is a very fun activity you do at a different school in

Grades 5 and 6. Because I was captain of my team, I got to put people in their positions and that was really it, but it was still very fun. You do it once a year. I did it on the 29th of May on a Friday. In Winter Sports there are four fun sports you could choose to play. Netball, AFL, T-ball, and soccer. I chose netball because I love the sport so much. I also play netball outside of school on the weekend. On the day, Netball and T-ball people went on a bus and went to a massive school in Warragul, and my team did pretty well. We won four games but lost two. They were close games though which is better than getting smashed. It was a very fun day. Thanks for reading my paragraph about winter sports!

I am Judd and I am going to be writing about Winter Sports and what was good. Some of the good stuff was most people passed the ball very well and there were some passes that were not the best. But we still worked the ball really well around the other teams. There were many scoring opportunities, and we had lots of goals within the boys' and girls' team. It was very fun being able to get out and play some sports with my friends, I was also very happy about being captain. Thank you for reading my Winter Sports report.

On 29th May most grade 5s and 6s went to Winter Sports. I was the captain of the C team in netball and we played very well. It was a very fun day with lots of playing and practising. We played maybe 5 games and our team won all of them. We had to borrow someone from the Traf B or D team each time we played because we were one person short. It was a very fun day, and I had lots of fun playing netball and I'm happy that my team did so well. Thanks for reading.  Erin

The AFL winter sports went really well and as a captain I think that the team did really well. We lost all of our games but that does not matter because we all did so well. The whole event was really fun. I want to do the winter sports again. Zane

Hi, I'm Alexa and I was the captain of the netball D team. I think we did pretty good because we have never played netball as a team together. I was the only Grade six on the team but that didn't matter because we still had fun. We didn't win any and got one draw, but we didn't care.  We had an amazing day.

On Friday the 29th of May, I went to Winter Sports, I played football and was a captain. Before the games started my team and I warmed up for our first game. We were so excited, now the game has started. We were winning at this point. I was really happy our team had scored two goals and a couple points. The whistle blew and we won our first game. We hyped each other up for the next game, but this team was hard. They had some really good players on their team. Our team didn't get many points or goals, but we still did well. Straight after our next game arrived, we were all very tired, we tried our best but they still won. At the end we won 1 out of 3 games. Tiffany

Hello.  My name is Harper and I played on the girls A netball team for Winter Sports, and I like that we did well. I think that, because we have never played as a team before. We had one win which was really good. I had an amazing day out with my friends and Emily! Sadly, next year I won’t be able to do it again.

This year for Winter Sports I chose soccer. This year we went to Bellbird Park in Drouin. The people that were on our team were Myah, Rylee, Eliza, Ivy, Porscha, and Libby our captain. We won 4 out of five games the fifth game we tied. This year we had a very strong team. But we only had six players when we were meant to have 9 players. Overall, in the game we came out first. We moved on to Regional which, if you don't know, is the next level of the competition. In conclusion overall I think our team did very well. Eliza

Our tee-ball team performed great. It was a lot of fun for all of us. We won two games. The second game, and the last game which I am very happy about. Although we lost two games, the first one and the third, it was a great effort. It went almost as perfect as I imagined it would. It is definitely my best day ever this term and I’m glad I picked tee-ball and not any other sports. Thank you for reading this and I hope you have a great time. Safira

For me Winter Sports has been a great experience, and I had a great time there. I liked playing netball with my friends and we did great. We played piggy in the middle and had very little issues. I had a great time and would like to go to the next stage. Bean

The Arts Are Alive!

Hello and welcome to another week in the Art Room.

This week brought an exciting highlight for Traf PS students with the annual Tanjil Valley Art Show.  Our school proudly displayed around 50 works selected by Mrs. Brown, representing Traf PS alongside fellow Tanjil Valley schools including Yallourn North, Willow Grove, Rawson, and Tanjil South Primary Schools, as well as a number of private entries. With approximately 160 under-13 youth art entries on display, judge Prue Burrage would have faced no easy task choosing a winner from such an impressive collection of work.

Our school must have had what the judges were looking for as we took home 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize as well as several honourable mentions and encouragement awards. We are incredibly proud of all those who had entries in the show and hope to see them continue their artistic careers into the future.

1st (Mila B-Pencil Budgie), 2nd (Paige M- Pencil Pug) and 3rd (Phoebe B- Blue Budgie) Honourable mentions to Mable B, Judd E and Mimi V. Mimi took it upon herself to enter as a private entry and came in an extremely close 2nd Best Youth in Show. Congratulations!

Back in the Art Room, Foundation students have been introduced to the Magical Garden of Claude Monet and, have been working on a mixed media piece inspired by the artists beautiful water lily garden. Each week students have been read a story about Monet and added a new element to their water garden picture. Week 1 students create the water and lily pads followed by the green Japanese bridge in week 2. There is still a few more elements to add to these pieces before they’re complete.

Grades 1 and 2 have been creating some colourful still life pots and cactus using pastel and watercolours. Students learnt about space, balance and overlapping to create these mixed media pieces.

Grade 3 have been working hard on drawing scales and eyes in oil pastel to create some eye catching, hatching dragon eggs and, Grade 4 have been working on some vibrant, large closeup dragon eyes. All students have shown immense love and enthusiasm of their dragons and have shown they are really getting the hang of oil pastels.

Grades 5 and 6 continue to work on their blue Ming inspired pottery paintings. The blue ink designs are really coming along as the students gain skills in fine line painting and pattern making.

It has been a highly successful and rewarding week for our young artists and we look forward to sharing more art with you in the coming months.

📢- The Art Room is looking for donations of cardboard rolls and tubing.  Any size welcome! Think toilet rolls, paper towel rolls, wrapping paper tubes, or anything similar.

If you have any at home, please drop them into the school office at your convenience. Every donation helps fuel our students' creativity!

Have a great fortnight and stay creative!
