SENIOR SCHOOL | Update

Dear Parents/Carers, Students And Friends
It has been a great start to Term 2 on the Senior Campus, with our pillars of Community, Aspiration and Excellence providing the grounding for everything we do at Frankston High School.
It was fantastic to welcome so many of our families on site for our recent Parent Student Teacher Conferences. Seeing students, families and teachers connect in such a meaningful way was amazing and it created a wonderful sense of community across the school. I hope these conversations provided some insight and feedback for improvement. These conversations help to strengthen the vital tripartisan relationship that we value so much at Frankston High School.
Our ANZAC Day assemblies were also a highlight. I would like to congratulate our Senior School students on their respect and maturity throughout these important commemorations. The way our students engaged was a great reflection on themselves and our school community.
Our Year 12 students also recently attended a presentation from the Teenage Road Accident Group, which continues to be an important and impactful experience focused on road safety. The messages shared, while very confronting, reinforce the importance of reducing risk-taking behavior and looking after ourselves, our friends and others. We appreciate the way our students approached this session with seriousness and respect.
At present, students are completing the Attitudes to School Survey. This provides an important opportunity for students to share their thoughts and experiences. The feedback gathered plays a really important role in helping us reflect on and continually refine how we best support students within our Senior School.
We also saw strong participation from our Senior School students in whole-school events such as the House Athletics Carnival. They set an excellent example for our younger students through their involvement, encouragement, and school spirit. A real highlight was the '12’s at 12' initiative, and it was fantastic for our younger students to see the energy, joy and enthusiasm that our senior students approached the day with.
As we move further into the term, we are approaching a significant period of assessment:
- Year 11 exams will commence from Wednesday 3 June
- followed by Year 12 Assessment Week beginning Tuesday 9 June, and
- the General Achievement Test (GAT) on Tuesday 16 June.
This is a valuable opportunity for students to not only demonstrate their learning, but also to practice performing under exam conditions and to refine how they prepare for assessments. We strongly encourage students to focus on effective study techniques, particularly retrieval practice, and to ensure they are familiar with their assessment and exam timetables.
During these periods, students are only required on-site for their scheduled assessments.
We also encourage families to familiarise themselves with these timelines and to reach out to the Senior School team if support or guidance is required.
We are also looking forward to a number of upcoming events, including the Year 11 Formal on Thursday 18 June, which is always a highlight of the year and a wonderful opportunity for students to come together and celebrate.
Term 2 can often be a challenging time, particularly for our Senior School students, as academic demands increase. It is important that students and families continue to lean on the wide range of support available within Frankston High School, including Heads of Year, coordinators, teachers, wellbeing staff and our Careers team. In this space, I also encourage families to engage with the regular Careers newsletter, produced by our outstanding Careers team, to stay informed about the many opportunities and pathways available to our students.
I would like to thank our families for their ongoing support and partnership in maintaining our high expectations. This extends beyond uniform and attendance, to how our young people show up each day and represent themselves within our community. We continue to be incredibly proud of our senior students and the young adults they are becoming.
Thank you for your continued support of our Senior School.
