WRITING ROCKSTARS!

1/2A have been working very hard on constructing sentences as we move towards being able to create longer pieces of writing about our mentor text, Wendy. We are learning about independent clauses and how each independent clause needs a subject and an action for it to be a sentence that follows the rules! We have also been learning about making connections to characters in texts we read and how our real-life experiences help us understand how characters might be feeling. Take a look at our sentence writing below (some students were a bit camera shy, but were very proud of their learning!).

PREMIERS' READING CHALLENGE 2026

So far this term, we have read seven books for the 2026 Premiers' Reading Challenge. We are enjoying discussing elements of the story we liked and which characters are our favourite. This has been a great chance to practice learning about statements that are facts and statements that are just our opinion! It has also been a great opportunity for students to develop an understanding of fiction texts not being 'fake', but to help us be able to learn lessons through stories and morals that the author wants us to consider. Take a look at our star ratings so far!

FUN WITH FRACTIONS!

We are beginning our foray into fractions, which is always a super large mathematical concept for students to understand and make connections with. We are exploring fractions of a whole, and referring to fractions as equal parts of a whole. Today we explored how many times we could perform repeated halving on a whole piece of paper, and whether cutting our halves into squares, rectangles or triangles would change how many equal pieces we could create. It was amazing to discover every time we perform a repeated halving, we create more equal pieces but they are smaller than the last! This blew some minds 🤯
