Work Experience in the spotlight - Sonny O’Brien
Where did you complete your work experience?
I completed my work experience week at the Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly
What was a typical day like for you?
A typical day started at 9am, I met with everyone coming into the office and then discussed with Tony the plan and layout for the day, tasks I was to be given throughout the day as well as extracurricular activities. Throughout the day I would be in the office completing data collection, creating graphs and documents and completing specific projects made for the work experience week. On Tuesday and Thursday I attended the Horsham Special School in which I delivered Physical Education sessions to the students and helped to build skills with certain game mechanics.
What kinds of tasks/jobs were you given?
As stated before, I was given jobs such as delivering physical education sessions and also completing data collection, along side this I was given the opportunity to attend the Wimmera Whippets Football and Netball training and assisted in their session, I enjoyed meeting the whole team who was very welcoming and supportive. I was also given a task to complete related to the Horsham Panthers Rugby League Club, which disbanded in 2019, I thoroughly enjoyed gathering information to build a report and communicating with outside sources and former club members to assist in the clubs redevelopment.
Did you enjoy your Work Experience?
I had so much fun completing my work experience week as it opened my eyes to a career path that I am now strongly interested in pursuing after high school, I learned skills in technology such as developing charts and graphs, how to use certain company websites and how their data is stored and managed, as well as learning about how advertising works and how newsletters are released and edited on the go. I also improved my skills in providing support for those with disabilities through my special school sessions and whippets training. The work experience week exceeded my expectations by a mile and I would just like to thank Tony for providing this opportunity to me and the whole team for being so welcoming and encouraging throughout the week.

Assessments / Reporting
Within classes students are busy completing work requirements and assessment tasks. Teachers have begun the report writing process and will be chasing up any overdue or unsubmitted tasks within their subjects. Yr 10 students are reminded they need to be staying up to date with their work and using their study days to finalise any tasks. If unable to stay up to date with their work, teachers may request students to complete the tasks at afterschool redemptions which run on Mondays and Thursdays.
