Child Safe Standard 4: Family engagement
Child Safe Standard 4 requires schools to ensure families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
For a school to be compliant with Child Safe Standard 4 they must meet these minimum requirements:
Families participate in decisions affecting their child.
The school engages and openly communicates with families and the community about its child safe approach and relevant information is accessible.
Families and communities have a say in the development and review of the school's policies and practices.
Families, carers and the community are informed about the school's operations and governance.
The College aims to foster a welcoming, safe and transparent community where families feel respected and confident to raise concerns. The College recognises the shared responsibility between families, the community and staff members have in creating a safe and supportive learning environment.
To ensure open and effective communication all of the College's policies and procedures can be found on the St Peter's College website so they are accessible for everyone to read. Newsletters are emailed fortnightly to all families to alert them to any relevant information about what is happening at the College such as changes in policies or practices. The College engages with families and carers to determine their preferred method of communication so the College can make a more informed approach to its communication strategies.
The College also has a School Advisory Committee which families are a part of. The Committee meet once a term during the school year and encourage members to provide feedback on any new policies the College wishes to implement.
