The 2026 Athletics Carnival proved to be an exceptional day, despite the near Arctic conditions and the constant threat of rain. Students embraced the event with enthusiasm, competing with determination and pride for their respective Houses in pursuit of the McGuigan Shield.

Students showcased their abilities across a wide range of events, including shot put, discus, long jump, triple jump, and the traditional track races. In recent years, MacKillop House has continued to set a high standard, once again demonstrating its strength across the carnival. Their success was particularly evident in the Under 16 and Under 21 age groups, where they secured multiple age championship medallions

Year 12 students added greatly to the atmosphere, arriving in a variety of creative and colourful costumes. Standout outfits included a memorable Lorax ensemble, which claimed the award for best dressed, as well as a range of vibrant Crayola-themed costumes. Many staff commented on the leadership shown by the Year 12 cohort, whose energy and active participation set a positive tone for the entire day.

Events such as the Athletics Carnival play a vital role in building a strong school community. They provide opportunities for students to connect with peers and teachers in a relaxed, non-academic setting, where effort, enthusiasm, and participation are recognised and celebrated.

The relationships strengthened on days like this contribute directly to a more positive and productive learning environment. It was therefore encouraging to see such high levels of attendance. Students who were unable to attend missed a valuable opportunity to be part of a shared House experience and to celebrate the achievements of athletes across the campus.
