Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

AUTHOR VISIT

We were very fortunate to have Jordan Gould and Richard Pritchard speak to our Year 3 and 4 students this week.

They spoke about the inspiration behind creating ‘Wylah’ and that it was always a dream of theirs to write stories and books.

Everybody starts somewhere and they encouraged our students to follow their dreams whatever they may be. Richard animated a character in front of students, using his tablet, while students suggested ideas. Students then got to try out their own design for a character. Two students won prizes for their creative efforts designing their characters. Some students had their novels autographed while the authors/illustrators answered questions from the audience. It was a fantastic presentation and it was very inspiring for the students. Thank you to Richard and Jordan for taking the time to speak to the children. The books and card game are available at Collins Booksellers.

VOLUNTEERING

Have you thought about volunteering?

Volunteering is important for several reasons, spanning personal, social, and community benefits.

Volunteering can help you develop new skills or enhance existing ones, such as leadership, communication, and problem-solving.

can provide valuable experience that can be beneficial for your career, sometimes leading to job offers or professional connections.

Engaging in volunteer work has been shown to improve mental and physical health, reducing stress and increasing happiness.

Volunteering can give you a sense of accomplishment and purpose, making you feel more fulfilled and connected to your community.

Volunteering fosters a sense of community and social cohesion, bringing people together to work towards common goals.

It provides opportunities to meet new people, build friendships, and expand your social network.

Volunteering encourages active citizenship and participation in societal issues, promoting a more engaged and informed populace.

Many non-profit and community organizations rely heavily on volunteers to carry out their missions and services.

Volunteers play a critical role in addressing and alleviating social issues such as poverty, education, and healthcare disparities.

Volunteering can have a significant economic impact by providing valuable services that would otherwise require funding, allowing organizations to allocate resources more effectively.

Volunteering in international contexts can help promote cross-cultural understanding and global cooperation.

Volunteers often contribute to sustainable development goals by working on projects related to the environment, education, and community development.

Overall, volunteering enriches lives, strengthens communities, and fosters a more inclusive and supportive society.

Everyone can volunteer even if it’s for a small amount of time. Please contact the school if you could see yourself helping out.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

Year 1’s often channel their inner ninjas when they enter the corridor to prove that they are silent and stealthy.  One such ninja has taken it to a whole different level!

On Saturday, Mason from 1/2C competed in the Ninja Warrior Qualifying Competition at HIIT Nation. He came 2nd in his age group, proving that he really is a ninja!  He received a medal and is off to Melbourne in September to compete in the State Championships. Well done, Mason! We are so proud of you Mason and wish you all the best.

ILLNESS

With the colder months now upon us we are seeing a lot more illnesses across the school, in particular colds and flus.

A reminder that if your child is unwell that you keep them at home until they are fully recovered. If your child becomes ill at school you will be contacted to collect them. Please ensure all contact details for parents and emergency contacts are up to date.

STUDENT REPORTS AND PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Student reports will be available on Compass on Friday 21st June to allow discussion with your child’s teacher at the Parent Teacher Interviews next week. Please ensure that you book your Interview time through compass or by contacting the school office.

Parent Teacher Interviews will be held Monday 24th to Wednesday 26th June from 3.30 - 5pm.

NB: Year 3 interviews will commence earlier for those families who can access that time.

2024 LOTE Reports Information

The reporting format this year for Languages (Japanese) from Foundation to Year 4 includes a description of work undertaken and indication of progress. For Years 5 and 6 the report also includes a Numerical Standard for two 'Strands' or areas of study which are ‘Communicating’ and ‘Understanding’. In Languages (Japanese) the theoretical standard is Level 6 by the end of Year 6. At Warrnambool Primary School and many other schools, the actual time allocated to learning Languages is considerably less than the actual time required to cover the content. It is therefore perfectly reasonable that the average student at our school will be progressing towards Level 6 but still be the Level 5 range at the end of Year 6.  Parents therefore should not be unduly concerned that their child's Languages results appear to be in a lower range as compared with other subject areas.
