Specialists Updates and Celebrations

Mandarin (Prep)

Welcome to Term 3! In the first week, Prep students reviewed greetings in Mandarin and I was impressed by how much they remembered after the holidays! We also reviewed numbers through singing, dancing, writing and colouring. This week, we learned how to write 9 and 10 in Mandarin through tracing, writing and colouring. Over the next fortnight, we will continue practising writing numbers in different ways. We will then start our next topic - family members.

Visual Arts (Years 1 and 2)

Term 3 has begun and the students have already gotten off to an amazing start! Book Week has been the focus of our first two weeks in the Art Room. This week, the Grade 1 and 2 students have been creating small pieces of art that will be combined with the rest of the students in the school to make the Book Week Library display. The Grade 1 and 2 students have been drawing pictures of their favourite book characters! We brainstormed ideas together of all our favourite book characters and the students were getting so excited! Once Miss Zoe and myself get the Book Week Library display up, I know the students will be so proud of their contribution!

Music (Years 3 and 4)

This coming Monday marks the launch of the school production 2024. Over the next 6 weeks students across all year levels will learn their dance routines during their Music or Performing Arts lessons.

In the Grade 3 and 4 Music Program, our learning over the past two weeks has been about Electronic Dance Music (EDM). The purpose of this is for students to have a level of understanding and connection to how the majority of the music featured in the school production is made

Students have learnt how to compose music on their devices using Chrome Music Lab. They have completed composition tasks on drums, bass, chords and melody.

Performing Arts (Years 3 and 4)

Years 3 and 4 have started the new Performing Arts Curriculum, focusing on dance for the first few weeks of Term 1. The students had the opportunity to learn about different dance styles, such as: K-pop, hip-hop, pop, jazz and ballet. From this, students had exposure to various places these dances originated from and will continue to learn more about these styles throughout the term. Students explored various techniques related to that particular dance style and followed along by dancing to a video. What talent we have at SMPS!

Physical Education (Years 5 and 6)

This Term, the Year 5 and 6 classes have been excited to kick off their PE lessons with some new hockey skills. They have been developing their hand-eye coordination and balance while practising different dribbling, passing and shooting drills. It has been fantastic to see lots of children showing our school values while communicating and cooperating with their teammates in a variety of ways. We look forward to building up to more complex hockey skills next week and applying those skills in hockey games.
