House Band Competition

Dave McNamara

The annual House Band competition was held on Friday 21 June at lunchtime in the Cahill Centre. All three Houses were well prepared and performed like seasoned musicians. Loreto kicked off with an upbeat rendition of Murder on the Dance Floor. A tight rhythm section, confident vocals and a slashing guitar solo were features of this performance.

Carmel showed up with perhaps the largest band in the history of the competition. Their performance of Diamonds was moving in the quieter sections and full of hype in the built up moments.

Lourdes finished the concert off with a groovy version of Dancing Queen, including disco basslines and a drumstick twirling ending. Dancing teachers and students seemed to be a feature of all three items, which was greeted with squeals of excitement from the adoring crowd.

It was great to see the support that students from all Houses gave to each other both on stage and in the audience. Carmel was awarded the ‘Golden Microphone’ on the day. The competition was very close and the judge had a tough time separating the three items.

We were treated to a song by our judges, local singer-songwriters Rochelle Abel and Alex Dean. Many thanks to Rochelle and Alex for judging the competition, as well as the House Captains and Heads of House for their organisation and leadership. Congratulations to all of the students and staff involved for their hard work and preparedness to develop the performances over the practice period. You are all rockstars!
