What a busy term we've had in our Kindergarten classroom!

Last week in Maths we were learning that combining objects helps us to understand that whole numbers are made up of parts and the total number in a collection can be found by counting forwards from a given number.  The students were playing a game rolling 2 dice (1 dice with numbers 1-3 and the other dice with numbers to 10).  The students are learning to count on from a given number without needing to count from one.  They try to remember to keep the bigger number in their head and then count on from that bigger number.  This may seem easy for us, however for our little learners this is a tricky skill to learn.

In our literacy sessions the students are learning to express likes and dislikes about books we have read and identify favourite stories and characters.  We have been comparing imaginative and informative books that we have read this term.  We created a class column graph to make visual representations of the most and least liked texts.  The students used smiley face sticky notes to create one column that represents the most liked text and the sad face sticky notes to show the least liked text.  We discussed the graph and how it shows the class’s text preferences.  Kindergarten's favourite book was "Chip", a story about a seagull who loves chips!  Their least favourite was a wordless text called "Wave."

Next term we are excited to be celebrating 100 days of Kindergarten.

Celebrating 100 days helps students recognise and take pride in all that they have learned so far.

We are all excited to be dressing up like oldies on Monday 29th July - Monday Week 2 - and participate in a variety of activities across the day that centre around the number 100.

Happy holidays everyone! Thanks for a fabulous term!
