Assistant Principal Report
Following another rewarding day at Scoresby Secondary College, I find myself thinking about some of the wonderful initiatives our college offers our students.
As part of our Year 10 Work Experience week, I had the opportunity to visit Lia Amor at St. Joseph’s Primary school where she is assisting as a classroom aide.
The positive feedback she has received suggests that she would excel as a teacher, opening additional career prospects for her.
I eagerly anticipate visiting three more students this week as they embark on their work experience journeys.
Work experience is an invaluable program, providing our Year 10 students with the opportunity to gain real-life work experience and explore potential future career paths.
For some, it solidifies their career preferences, while for others, it offers a chance to reflect on potential career choices.
This successful week would not have been possible without the diligent and professional organisation of our career’s practitioner, Mrs Tanya Molly.
VET Concert
Our VET program, led by Mr Chris Schurmann and supported by highly accomplished musicians Mrs Cheryl Eastwood, Mr Jacob Long, and Mr Ben Leahy, not only nurtures our own aspiring musicians but attracts students from neighbouring schools as part of the VET cluster. It was evident why students travel to Scoresby to be guided by such highly accomplished musicians.
The hour-long concert was well executed. Congratulations to Wesley Ferdinands and Aaron Carter from our school, and heartfelt appreciation to our VET teachers for organising such an enjoyable event.
In a recent effort to reduce running costs, we acquired a ride-on mower that has allowed for the redeployment of resources.
VCE Vocational Major (VM)
An unexpected benefit of this investment has been the opportunity for some of our VCE Vocational Major (VM) students to enhance their skills under the careful guidance of Mr Andrew Young.
James Matthews and Sean Bernhard have displayed a real aptitude for gardening and have thoroughly enjoyed being the first students trained in using the ride-on mower.
Uniform Committee
We recently held our first uniform committee meeting after a period of hiatus from the school.
It was a very productive meeting with some great discussion with parents, students, and staff. We extend an open invitation to parents and students to attend future meetings or provide feedback on any matters.
A survey covering some of our discussions will soon be released to our students.
Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a restful and enjoyable mid-year break. I would also like to remind our Year 12 students that engaging in some revision during this period is incredibly valuable!
